MazingerZ

#1

Mazinger Z was my childhood hero. My brother and I used to sit in front of the TV saturdays mornings waiting anxiously for this show. My brother and this show inspired me to start drawing.

Now, my goal is pay tribute to Go Nagai, creator of the show by recreating the show opening in 3d.

I still don’t know if I should use cellshading for the final animation.
What do you guys think?

two more images…

haha excellent! I foresee you modeling a hoverpilder and a swimming pool that opens up! Excellent start! I was thinking of making a suber robot as well.

#4

Heh with all the weird stuff i’ve been modeling lately your excellent work has given me the idea to model Grandizer. heh.

I haven’t found any decent reference for the hover pilder. I don’t know how close I can get withou good reference. I would like to find at least a good side and top view. I’ll keep lookling…

hi…
my boyfriend has found this pic…he is a true fanatic, above all of goldrake

#7

HOLLY CRAP!
thanks! I’ve been looking for so long!
I really appreciate it.

#8

Nice,Mazinger and Grendizer are my childhood gods as well.

#9

here is the finished head, I haven’t had too much time to work on it this week…

#10

hey
i also love him makes me remember the old days:)
nice work man
keep going!

#11

here is the hand…

#12

Right On! I had a toy of this character when I was growing up. It wasn’t until Tranzor Z came out that I could talk about it with my friends.
the low angle shot looks dead on. I remember that my toy had a different attachable hand that had missiles that shot out of the ends.
Can’t wait to see more updates.

Thanks for the comments everybody.

Now that I take another look at the hand do you guys think that the thumb is too far down?

I remember about the finger missless I’ll probably won’t get that far but I will make the fist detachable like in the show

I can’t wait to animate Doublas M2 getting blasted by Mazinger’s fist. That will be fun to do.

It looks to me like the palm isn’t big enough and that the thumb should be that low if not lower. Also it seems to be shifted into his hand a little too much.

Yes, I see what you mean, I’ll fix that, should be a fairly easy fix.

#16

here is the foot. Kinda simple really. I also fixed the hand, now I have to rig him to check for deformations and then I’ll start the Hover Pilder modeling.

#17

ok folks, I finally did a couple of test renders and this is one of them. Just testing some light set ups.

#18

your progression is nice … i like the reflections on the hand in the render …

#19

pilder!

dang…i guess its all about the renders

its looking good…brings back some good memories. nice pose…cant wait to see your animation for this.

one thing i must say…is that the torso seems to have some clipping problems where the mid section is coming through the his “underwear” type bottom a lil bit…but other than that…its looking real nice…nice materials
