When I weight paint in Maya 2010, the brush sculpts the mesh as well as assigning weights. For example, If I paint on the shoulder all the vertices move around and distort the mesh, it behaves like the maya sculpt geometry tool for some reason. Everything was fine for a while then all of the sudden it started doing this, I restarted maya and reset to default but nothing works. I should also add that this is only happening for certain areas of the mesh, it is distorting when I paint on the head, shoulder and chest, but not the legs or anything else. Some help would be great!!
Maya Weight Painting Problem!
problem fixed!! if anybody was having the same problem, here is what was happening. I had tested the weight paints by rotating the arm, shoulder, etc. and did not erase the rotate information for the joint. I guess the rig has to be in T pose or whatever pose is its starting position or the weight painting tool gets confused. Thanks for reading.
That doesn’t sound quite right to me. I always paint weights with the body in different poses. How else will you know if you got it right?
Without opening Maya, (My computer is busy) I would look into your order of operations. Sometimes when you add a node like bind skin, you can set it to work parallel, front of chain, end of chain…might have something to do with that.
You get a similar sounding problem when you add blend shapes. Depending on how you tell it to connect, the blend shape effects the skin before you move the joint or after, one of which you won’t like.
good luck!
