Maya FX Rigs

Hello,

I am working with maya for the first time in a while. Can someone with experience comment on a typical setup for creating a re-usable FX rig in maya.

For example, if I created a setup for an arc of lightning jumping from one piece of geo to another, but then I need to bring it into shots and the geometry now has to come from the scene.

My first question is what is a typical way to bring an existing rig into a shot, and second what is a typical way to wire up new geometry.

how’s your lightning effect done ?

with geometry ?

connected to other geometry which is moving ?

how ? to shapes or transforms ?

what’s pi’s 34976543 decimal ?
