Maya Crashes when nCaching an nParticles Fluid Simulation...

#1

Greetings,

I was creating an nCache for an nParticles Fluid Simulation. At the end, when I did a Ctrl-s to save, Maya crashed with a Fatal Error. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Maya Error:

“A software problem has caused Autodesk Maya 2014 x64 to Close unexpectedly.”

On Clicking View Report, I see:

Error signature->Error: “Unhandled Exception”

In Report Contents, it lists a MayaCrashLog131204.1501.dmp file, a dmpuserinfo.xml, a dumpdata.zip and a MayaCrashLog131204.1501.log.

Since this is a school computer, I’m not able to access the Log File.

On the web, they suggested renaming the preferences file C:/Libraries/Documents/maya/2014x64/prefs. I did so, but it didn’t help.

My setup: I’m running on a Windows 7 Enterprise Machine. Processor: i7-2600K, 8GB Ram, 64Bit OS. Display Adapters: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450

I tried it on a Mac, but found that Maya crashed again.

I’ve made some progress though. I’ve possibly narrowed it down to a problem with a Passive-Collider setup:

I’m simulating liquid in a Jug being poured into a large Bowl that also has liquid.
It’s setup as an nParticle simulation. Both the Jug and the Bowl have nParticles, named (for example) nParticles_Jug and nParticles_Bowl. Both these nParticles belong to the same nucleus.

To begin the simulation, I had the Meshes of the Bowl and Jug set up to “Passive Collide” with the nucleus on Layer 0.

I find that even though the Jug moves through the air, the nParticles that are supposed to come along with it/ inside it, don’t move.

Any idea why this might be happening? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
