Maya 8 New Final Gather Modes

#1

does anyone know how to change the new final gather modes inside maya?

#2

hi!
open the script editor:

addAttr -ln “finalGatherMode” -at enum -en
“strict:compatible:auto:multi” miDefaultOptions;

addAttr -ln “finalGatherPoints” -at short -min 1 -max 100 -dv 20
miDefaultOptions;

You can acces the new modes in attribute editor on miDefaultOptions node in the extra attributes section

cheers

I was searching the help for dynamic attributes like crazy hehe :slight_smile:

Thanks alot buki :thumbsup:

PS if you know more hidden attributes for mr 3.5, please share them, hehe :smiley:

#4

Tkx buki i was searching like crazy for this.
Any idea why this option wasn`t available at start?

#5

theres something i dont understand, when you change to a new mode in the miDefaultOptions the final gather settings on the render settings are the same we stil have the final gather rebuild etc etc…

#6

ofcourse. Don’t know if those are still aefecting final gather on other modes than the default (gotta check the docs to see :)) but if they are not, then just ignore them, and be happy the new options are available through dynamic attributes :smiley:

ps, i’ve updated buki’s script.
you need to open once the Render Settings window and then just run this code (add it to a shelf for example), it will add those attributes (if they were not added before) and then open the miDefaultOpts attribute editor :slight_smile:

 if (`objExists miDefaultOptions`)
 {
 	if (!`attributeExists "finalGatherMode" "miDefaultOptions"`)
 	{
 		addAttr -ln "finalGatherMode" -at enum -en "strict:compatible:auto:multi" miDefaultOptions;
 		addAttr -ln "finalGatherPoints" -at short -min 1 -max 100 -dv 20 miDefaultOptions;
 	}

 	select miDefaultOptions;
 	ShowAttributeEditorOrChannelBox;
 }

ok, tested all the modes and it seems the

automatic/multiframe only use these settings:
FG Points, FG Rays, Rebuild, FG depth (refl, refr, etc) and Secodary Bounces.

the other two modes use the standard settigs.

:slight_smile:

#7

so if these FG options are hidden by default, is there any chance the new MR sky lighting options are there somewhere waiting to be found??

#8

How does this work? when you turn this on your render is pretty right away or do you still have to muck around with 20 different settings :smiley:

And why is this setting not in render globals ?

#9

good question mech7 can`t understand why. Maya 7.0 when it was released it came with several “bugs”, until the 7.01 update it was a nightmare…
