Yep, we’ll have our new baby!

Have a look here:

And I wonder how it is on the boxx workstation…

#3

Fantastic news! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for us (Maya users) next!

#4

:bounce:

64 bit finally!

Can’t wait to learn the rest of the features!

#5

Great news :applause:. Also they mention about max9 too.

#6

yeah 3dsmax 9, but I can’t understand if it’s a 64bit version or not…

We’ll see

Autodesk haven’t exactly been trying to keep this quiet though - I saw a post from Autodesk staff on their forums a fortnight ago that said the 64-bit beta was closed ready for release shortly.

But Boxx beat them to it for an official announcement

Parts of my CPU will finally lose its virginity

#9

Thats gold! … (its an AUS thing)

#10

Sweet! :bounce:

#11

Yey!! Great news. Finally it’s getting worthwile being on XP64 besides all the quirks (few drivers, no proper QuickTime)

Now bring unlimited Mental Ray (for Maya) licenses and I’m in heaven

#12

Can’t wait! Now its turn to zbrush to go 64

whats the big deal about 64bit? doesn’t offer anything new or improve anything. It would just mean you could increase the scene size, and i don’t think its all that important.

#15

Why is it always so hard to satisfy the users?

Well, its nice being able to use all your memmory, and in film FX especially 2gig+ memmory is VERY useful. 16gig machines become a reality and they certainly are useful for certain very heavy FX sims i.e. fluids.

Another example is say atteching all the elements of a very large model together, if its big enough you may have to attach one part, then flush your ram, save, do the next part etc. And if you get to ambitous you may run out of ram and then the app bombs. With 4gig or 8gig you can do that operation in one go and save a lot of time and pain.

In most mid-large studios now you’ll see the base spec for machines go up to 4gig probably and for there to be small amounts 8 or 16gig machines for really have effects work.

64bit is cool, don’t knock it

Cheers

I noticed XSI already has a 64 bit version.

Is there an easy way to upgrade your OS (WinXP Media Center in my case) up to a 64 bit one? Or do we have to wait for Vista or a Vista Beta? …

We’ve been running out of memory on a few scenes during our last project, and had to resort to various tricks to get Maya to work with them.

Also, Zbrush and Mudbox could work with 10-30 million polygons per model if it were not for the 2 GB memory limit per task. 64 bit should make it possible.

#19

Yes you can run XP x64… thre are many 3d apps btw allready with 64 bit… Cinema4d, Lightwave…

The only problem I have on x64 is that zbrush will not run with more then 2 gb ram :frowning:

From the Boxx site “–APEXX 4: Autodesk® Maya ® 8 and Autodesk® 3ds Max® 9”

From their whole adverts structure that inferes that Max9.0 (64bit) will do demo’d also.

Cool
