Maya 2011 BUGS (Write Here)

When I activate the compass below the viewcube and save my settings, next time I open Maya the compass is not there anymore. I need to activate it in every maya session.

Does anybody else here has the problem, that you can’t move the sliders in the new color picker? They are locked on my end. As well as the spinner next to the input fields.
When the mode is set to 0-1, I cannot move the spinners, sliders or even enter in the color input fields. None of this works.
And even stranger - when the mouse cursur is inside the input field for a value (red for example) all color changes will be ignored and the color jumps always to black when I leave the color chooser.

Keying the Photon Intensity is not working. I KNOW I KNOW, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO KEY THAT??? Its keyable, and I need that!

However, Set a key on frame 1 (value1) go to frame 24 set a key (value 6000 just examples). Rewind to frame one…everything seems fine. Unselect the light reselect and check frame 1! If its still at a value of 1, try to render it and it will render with a value of 6000.

If tried a lot of things, but it seems that it only keeps the highest value! Also if you for instance set a key with a value of 0, it will loose the colorvalues and gets black…ok makes sense, but then for instance on frame 24 when its on 6000 its white instead of the color you´ve set!

Twice now in 2011 I have had a Polygonal plane simply disappear on opening up a Maya file which was created in 2011. So I bring in or build a new plane which stays there. Later, I notice that I have two planes, the original has decided to show up after all. No layers are turned off. Perplexing.

random fluid frames are not being rendered when using the “NEW” auto resize feature in fluids
i did cache the fluid and enabled the play every frame

anyone having the same problem ?

update: if i do not cache the fluid simulation it will work fine… so the problem is when i use the auto resize + cache fluid simulation

Welcome Ricardo!
Have you reported it to Autodesk? If yes, post your bug number here, if not do it now!

#146

Yep. Because it’s small you really have to zoom in to see the node and thus, you lose the larger view of the node flow. It’s not as good as the older 2010 work area font. This is not a bug, but it needs serious fixing.

Maya 2011 new interface is littered all over with a lot of extra, unnecessary lines that add noise to the user experience. For example, go to File->Import options square box. That dialog box has 3 extra lines that do not seem to serve any purpose.

#148

What are you talking about?

#149

In Motif’s Channel Box you could select multiple objects and change there attributes simultaneously across all objects.

It works on 2011 too, but not when you change drop down attributes, can anyone confirm?

Anyone else having issues getting a smooth play blast on Win 7 64bit, on complex scenes, with multiple character sets, and references, I am getting jerky videos. The only solution I have found is output an image sequence, though for some reason no matter what format I choose, the file has the extension “.img”, instead of for example “.png”. It works in Maya 2010, so something has changed…

#151

Is there a way to see the reported bugs? I can’t find any link in autodesk.com or subscription center. Thanks.

#152

no - there isn’t

Thank you Dave.

I’m having problems registering a renderer in Maya 2011.
Every time I change to my register renderer, in render globals, I get the next error message:

// Error: setParent: Object 'commonTabColumn' not found. //

This error only happens in Maya 2011, and as far as I know, ‘commonTabColumn’ is from the common Tab of the defaults Maya renderers.

Also, There’s no way to see the options in render globals when I change to my register renderer until I change to another tab of my renderer, then the first tab is also updated. Again, this only happens in Maya 2011.

Anyone knows something about this?
Thanks.

been using Maya 2011 demo for the past week, it has crashed a dozen times by now. With a scene Maya crashed 4 times in a row after a same operation : deleting history of a poly shape deformed by lattice. Plus another 3 crashes also followed deleting history. what’s worse was that Maya crashed without saving the scene file to the temp folder most of the time. I guess the half-baked QT integration should be blamed for this. Hope a much-needed sp will come soon and fix these flaws.

#155

Hi Alex,

I’m curious about this issue and it would be great to get some more information, because so far I haven’t seen this happen with 2011. Can you give a step-by-step workflow or other details about the machine you’re using?

Thanks,
Ryan

It’s great that you can tear off ‘Recent commands’ now, but it doesn’t update until you’ve accessed it through the hotbox again, rendering it useless.

Is there a way to toggle all floating windows on/off now? If not, it’d be great to have.

#157

The “movie” format for playblasts on windows x64 was removed?? Only avi or iff now, and it seems none of the avi compressions actually change the output filesize. a 300mb file for a 300 frame animation is not going to work… Why can’t we make playblasts using something like h264?

#158

Regarding the issue where the viewport is freezing / not updating, this could be related to an Nvidia graphic driver topic.
On earlier versions of Maya, some Nvidia users have had their viewports freeze or locked/flicking and to resolve the issue, one has had to go into the Nvidia options -> manage 3d settings -> turn off THREADED OPTIMIZATION, but be sure to do it only for Maya, not on the default profile because in that case all applications will suffer from this override.
Dont know if this will help but it might just.

Playblast seems to be very messed up in 2011…at least for some of us. So make sure you log your issues with ADSK support because they are having trouble recreating some of the problems I’ve been having.

OS X and Win7: all Playblast MOVs and AVIs are 24fps no matter what you’re scene is set to. ADSK says this is a problem with OS X 10.6.3 and (as of a couple of days ago) not reproducible in Win7.

OS X and Win7: Playblast refuses to accept your file extension choice (iff are output as img, etc.)

OS X: MOV CODEC choices are limited (no ProRes, etc.) when running 2011 in 64bit mode. ADSK has closed this as an Apple problem. Perhaps some of these Quicktime codecs are not 64bit aware.

Win7: AVI CODEC choices are limited. Given what ADSK said about Apple 64bit, perhaps the same thing goes for the Windows side. Anyone running 2011 32bit? Can you post a list of what CODEC options you get in Playblast?

#160

As far as I know, the list of codecs when doing x64 playblasts have always been gimped. At least on Windows.
I’ve been using both 2009 and 2010 x64 @ windows vista for some time but most of the time windows 7, and the codecs I can choose from are hardwarecodecs or uncompressed, which either gives a messed up result, or a huge file.
Although, I was successful in getting a x264-format on the list on work the other week and been using it since. Dont remember what codec I installed.
