Maya 2011 BUGS (Write Here)

#401

I am agree 100% with Sorath.

I have spent 1 week of work on maya 2011 hotfix3 with 20-25 crashes a day, slowdowns, frezing of interface etc…Its just crap… Its impossible to use in a production.

So I am returning to maya 2010.

Its so frustrating…My studio actually pay a lot of $$$ for this piece of crap… :frowning:

You get 20-25 crashes per day and none in 2010? What platform/hardware are you running Maya on?

#403

really weird. 2010 actually was air for me - never opened it.
2009 worked like a charm in feature production - never had any issue. That’s how working should be!
I guess most of the studios will still be working on 2009 if they can’t get 2011 better than 2009 performancewise.

#404

Sorry to hear you have such problems. But impossible to use in production? We recently upgraded from 2009 to 2011 for a new production and it’s working just fine.

#405

Strange… How exactly are you getting these 20 to 25 crashes you paid a lot of $$$ for.

#406

You are discussing a relative matter, where most advanced users know how to take advantage of the recent changes whereas habits are limiting the others.

Rethorically so

Hey.
I was wondering if anyone is having problems with the right click pop up menu (i’m not sure of the correct terminology here). Basically, that pop up that allows u to choose if you want to select vertex, edge, faces, object, etc. It’s not centered to where I initially click, which is quite frustrating for me since I had years of muscle memory knowing if i RMB and move a little up, i can select edges. RMB and move left, i can select vertex. However, since it’s not centered to mouse click now, i have to move quite out of the way to select what I want to do.

I know this is not a huge issue, but it’s just extremely frustrating since I have to read the menu every time (coz the location is random) instead of being about to change selection on the fly. Does anyone have the same issue, and if so do you have the solution?

#409

For me it centers on the cursor, unless there is not enough screen space lower than the cursor. So if i right click over an object that is near the bottom of the screen then the menu shifts up so that it stays entirely on screen.

A workaround that comes to mind is to edit the dagMenuProc.mel script to stop it creating the menu list below the radial menu. Obviously this would only be an option if you never use those other menu items.

(I can help you with the edit if you are interested in this solution)

I wonder if there is a way (env variable?) to tell maya to ignore screen boundary when drawing a menu, so that it just runs off the screen… just a thought…

#410

I realize what the problem was. Something to do with Maya not reading the resolution right when I have a dual monitor set up. I re-did the settings for dual monitor setup and it’s centered now. Thanks!

#411

Is there any way to create a list of all these (real of presumed) bugs?
I just have no time to read all the pages, and the search doesn’t help.

thanks

I’ve forgot this one. thanks!

I don’t know if this has been posted before.

In Maya 2011 on OS X, when I create an MIA_x and assign either “Overall Bump” or “Standard Bump” then change the bump2d node to “Tangent Space Normals” or “Object Space Normals”, Maya will immediately crash.

The only workaround I have found to work is to create that portion of the shader in 2010, then import it into your 2011 file and connect the 2010 bump2d node to the 2011 MIA_x.

bug report filed.

#415

We know about that one. http://bugs.thnkr.com/view.php?id=83
workaround: assign a file texture before switching the Use As: to Tangent Space Normals

win vista, 4gb, quadcore 2.6, gforce

physical light intensity cannot be higher than 1000.

sucks. :frowning:

#417

Cool, thanks mduvekot. I figured it was not unknown, and the workaround you suggested is sufficient.

#418

That’s not a bug !

it’s a feature :banghead:

#419

I don’t know if this can be considered a bug, but, this one time I was editing some curves (actually deleting CV points) and as I tried to save the file and hit CTRL+S maya said “no changes to save”. I was like “wtf, I just deleted stuff, isn’t that like enough change?”.

  • If you have two or more Blend Shapes and you want to paint their weights, the list inside the paint weights tool shows all of them, but you can only paint the weights of th first one.

  • Deleting the history after painitng Blend Shape weights causes a crash.
