Ummmm isn’t [b]everybody[/b[ voting for this?
Why is it tucked away here in the Mods forum???
:surprised

I was just wondering why so many entries were in both the environment and character categories at the same time? shouldn’t you have to choose one category? I may be totally off on this…:curious:

some people (like myself) have created both a character and an environment - so I guess you could vote based on each part independantly (prefer one over the other for example). Course, this is tricky with entries like Pixolaters/Mat Clark’s - where you have a fantastic character that is itself an environment, but I spose they get a vote for inspired originality!

Although I personally would have liked to have had the ‘character’ link to an image of the character itself… but each to their own!

I guess the point I am trying to make is that…since you mentioned it… matt clarks image for instance…while it is an amazing entry…the character is the main focus of the image, not the environment! take away the character and do you think his environment would still get that many votes?? my point is that people are not voting based on “environment” or “character”…if this is the case why aren’t all the images just lumped into one category called “enchated forest” and voted on all together equally…you can’t say oh here is my character entry and here is my environment entry…and them be exactly the same image…I mean which is it…a character or an environment??

I have to agree. I think its cheap to have the same image entered into two seemingly different challenges. I think an image with a dominant character should be entered into the character category and a dominant environment into the env cat. however, i think to be allowed to enter into both the character and environment have to be equally strong, or show the character separately in a different render.

I agree with you guys as well. In the rules for this challenge it was said that if you did a character, then it had to be in a forrest environment. So I guess if you have a picture with a character and environment then you sould state weather it is an environment entry with a character in it, or if it’s a character entry with a big environment. I think that having the same picture entered into multiple catagories is like stuffing the ballot box. All it really does is reduce other people’s chance at getting recognition in a particular section (enviro/char/vehicle/2D).

Just my 2 cents.

I would’ve been more than happy to have two renders - one of my character, and one of his environment - or not even neccessarily his environment… I suppose if you were entering two “stages” of the challenge you could submit two completely different ideas.

As it stands, I think if you’ve created a character and and environment then I think you’d probably want to have them both together… but I also think that maybe the catagories should have gone something like this:

Character, <- Character, maybe some simple surroundings
Environment, <- Dedicated environment
Image, <- This would catagorise the likes of Mr Clark and also those who’ve done both a character and an environment.

Well I spose it’s too late now, but perhaps something to consider given the next challenge.

Now what’s that going to be…

Matt Clark still in da challege? I though he says “so I’ll exclude myself from the challenge” ? hehe anyways matt nice modeling though  but I think you could do better then that

Quoted from his thread:
I’ve turned it into more of a photoshop creation, so I’ll exclude myself from the challenge, but I think I’ll try and finish the image when I have time. There’s a few things here I plan to deal with; not happy with the sky (esp round the top of the image), there’s those annoying branches to the right of his head that don’t look natural, and the trees still look a bit to uniform (they’re obviously all cloned )

Cheers,

Matt Clark

i think (as do some others) that it may be a good idea to rather than have names to vote by, have thumbnails instead…as some members are more in/famous than others there is the strong possibility that some members work doesn’t get leven looked at, and that some people look at the same peoples work each time and the voting gets skewed accordingly

#16

I wouldnt worry about it too much. It’s the law of the land. There is only so much you can do to make it fair. Besides, they do have a thumbnail post area. It’s jsut not linked to the final voting area. I have only been here through two challenges, entering only this one. The thing is, you can already see the hand of the artist on lots of these posts. Strike’s last two have been real similar in texture and coloring. Same with Leigh, and Sangotten. Also the 2D guys. Don’t want to forget them. I say it works okay, we just have a higher bar to reach. And if you want your stuff to be remembered, you just have to post more on your threads. I’ll get off my soapbox now… :surprised
