I like how you have really opened up the shot with the elevated rail on the right, be mindful though that you will now have to relight the foreground area which was predominantly in shade from the building on the right.

I look forward to more of your coffee break noodlings

#13

Trying to work that one out at the moment I can not find a hi res image of that area, yes I love my coffee breaks,

Was thinking of putting in a unearthly object in there, but changed my mind. Still noodling through,

thanks for the support,

Richie,

Another bout of coffee break madness, that left hand building in the foreground. Made me very grumpy going to smash it literally and figuratively :wip: .

Not neat and tidy as of yet, but its on its way.

Now where to place this abrams tank is my next thought.

Richie.

Hi Richie,

I’m curious to see the final result (and also the place you will find for the tank, maybe in front of the left foreground building, coming from behind the camera, with only the canon and the front of the tank coming into the scene ?)!!

#16

Hope this answers your question, if you see the tank, you can see that it has been thrown through the rear skyscraper, clipped the edge of the building and ended on the ground floor, those rather messy super heroes threw it.

I tried your suggestion, but it did not read, it helped the composition, but it needed to be a character and part of the story rather than a bystander.

Now everything is finally blocked out well its time to tighten the whole lot.

Update:

Loads and loads of work, still to do, thats a lot of coffee.

Richie :bounce:

#18

Make sure you match the colour and lighting to the plate when you add new elements.

#19

Your correct that is what I am now working on there are three areas that need more work doing, then I am going through the layer stack and changing colour and lighting, that needs to be done as body of work in a couple of hours. Time which I am fighting to get, so it will be done, doing this on breaks and lunches,

Thanks for helping out,

Richie.

#20

Some catch up and clean up, still loads to do,

Richie :arteest:

#21

Was not happy with some of the items, so done some noodling, gonna put this away for now, I have tomorrow booked for tightening the painting, so glad I have 16Gb of RAM in my MBP. Going to get out the wacom and do so fine texturing, and painting. I have done all of this just with trackpad at the moment.

I know everyone is getting perturbed by the lighting, that is reserved for final looks, basic lighting and matching blacks is done on import, but the layers are designed so most of the elements can be done on the final mastering. Its a trick I learnt from a sound engineer, for a good audio mix. Same process with this, it works.

Current WIP:

#22

Latest update, a ton of work done, couple more hours I reckon I could call it done,

please remember this is downrezzed image from the hosting site, but there has been a lot of painting and texturing done so far.

Just a quick video of the steps done so far, so you can see the process,

#24

this or vehicle version ??

Richie

#25

I prefer this one, the vehicles were nice models but they weren’t sitting right, I think the lighting needed some more work in order to give them greater cohesion with the surrounding enviromment.

#26

Agree with andrew,

The last one looks better

#27

Hi Richard,

The new WIP is a big step forward! Agree with the others that the vehicles weren’t sitting properly. This cleaner destruction looks much better. (cleaner destruction, what? :p)

I’d have another look through the levels to match the lightning a little more. Pay special attention to the shadows and highlights as this is what stands out the most. Maybe tighten up the edges where the elements intersect and match the color values to blend them as cohesively as possible to the original plate.

Dave

#28

Thanks everyone for your comments, yes called in the scrap truck and pulled out the vehicles,

The edges and lighting need fixing, that is all doable.

Thank you

Richie.

#29

I think you are introducing way to many elements, grade/blur etc one element at time in reference to the plate. that’s just a tip. good luck

#30

Sorry for the lack of updates ran out of coffee, and went on a mini break last week,

need to add one final element, which is going to be hard, I may have to ask one of my American friends to take a hi res photo for this element, or model it in C4d. Deep joy,

Oh made the choice to have this in the golden hour, the original photo was fine, but I wanted a aerial perspective on it. Oh and have kept my tank in. No point have destruction but not what caused it.

any how another cup of Java awaits.
