Maxon red giant merge

#1

So… Who bought who and what does this means for us and for the guys who kept spamming Blender?

#2

It is a merger, not a buyout. The two companies become one.

#3

Unlike with redshift I fail to see the synergies between the two at the moment, except for their immoderate love for After Effects and the Adobe world (including subscriptions).

Are they going to make a 3D plugin for AE together (like Element 3D?) to replace/complement C4D lite?

Are we getting a compositing toolset in C4D (like Blender?) based on their plugin suite?

Or are they just trying to look more sexy for an Adobe buyout down the road?

I think you might be spot on with that last statement. I’ve wondered/pontificated for years about it.

In the meantime, I wonder what the name of the new merger will be. Surely since it is not a buyout both the names Maxon and Red Giant go away?

Giant Red Maxon’s 3D software version R22 is going to be great!

#5

So, what happens to our cool CEO?

#6

Red Giant products and Maxon products both lend themselves to cool imagemaking so I’m sure there will be some synergy somewhere.

Red Giant staff are also pretty switched on at making software. So maybe they can make some stuff for C4D.

In particular, if anyone can develop a really cool, easier than usual workflow to enhance the live action/motion tracking/roto/mix CG with footage process, it’s Stu Maschwitz. Maxon should pay him just to brainstorm cool stuff. I could easily see him adding stuff to both packages that indie filmmakers would be excited about.

We have grown a bit fond of him, i think we keep him

Supercomp integration!!! Yah!!
