OK, this is worse than I thought.
In Win7, when using the old style Material/Map Browser and saving a material to the library… the saving process seems to be normal but the material is not displayed in the library until I click one of the buttons at the top of the dialog which then refreshes and shows the added material.
In XPx64, when using the old style Material/Map Browser and saving a material to the library… it first asks which library to save into by presenting two options - the name of the previously loaded library or ‘Temporary Library’. (I’ve never seen this before… what it this temp library?). I choose to save into the previously loaded library and then the saving process seems to be normal but the material is not displayed in the library and if try to click one of the buttons at the top of the dialog to refresh it… it never shows the added material. Since it never displays the added material (even though it is actually there), it makes the browser totally unusable.
When I use the Save function within the browser to save the material library to disk, it saves the file. If I use the Open function to reload the material library, it reloads it but still refuses to display the newly added materials in the library. In addition, when I exit MAX2014… a dialog pops up that asks if I want to save the material library to disk before exiting. (I’ve never seen this before… I usually save the MAT file from within the browser… why is it asking me to save it again?). I say yes.
If I exit MAX and restart MAX and open the material library file… the newly added materials are displayed in the list.
Are there some other settings that I’m missing to make the browser and material libraries function as they have for many years?
