Hmm…shakes head…I see you’ve been Burne’d!
Pretty decent, I think you’re really getting the idea of the Opposing Curves there.
I like how you’re really emphasizing the outline of the form, and keeping the interior form a bit lighter. Keep going on these ~ and if possible, work on a larger (newsprint size) paper / newsprint pad.
Keep goin’! ![]()

Yeah Becca ~
I think it is the next logical step. Working at just a shade bigger than the images are in his book is starting to have its limitations.
I’m still just a puppy tho at these, but I have to take a leap into a bigger world at some point… (I bought his other books off amazon yesterday. I cant wait until they land.)

Errrmmmmm… Dynamic figure drawing : A new approach to drawing the moving figure in deep space and foreshortening (what an excellent title name!) and Dynamic wrinkles and drapery: Solutions for drawing the clothed figure.
And that completes my set! Cant wait to find out how to draw figures in “Deep space” LOL. Will they have NASA suits on? ROFL…

Burne Hogarth figures in NASA suits would be a sight to behold…I imagine all those angular planes might make Space Exploration for a Burne Hogarthian quite a dangerous undertaking!
You know, like ‘Oh, crap, my trapezius compromised my safety…again’ type of thing. I’ll stop spamming now.

MattVogt,
Not bad! I agree that I think you ought to try a Traditional approach with these…I think you will get a lot more of a ‘feel’ for the drawings that way.
Keep going!

Hey - i thought it was about time i gave something back to this sub-forum, as i said to rebecca im always hanging around with a question or query!
so heres some master copys that I do from time to time - I do these in my a5 sketchbook - and sorry for the duff scans - my scanners an oldie!
velazquez - study of vulcan hour study

A horses head from Rubens st george and the dragon half an hour study
Leonardo baby busts - 15 minutes - thats why they look a bit scribbly - leonardo wouldent be happy…

should have some more in the future to post too
oh yeah and one last thing… A VERY big thank you to Rebecca for helping with my questions - Tis a wonderful forum you have here!
cheers
Gavin,
All I can say is…Nnnnnnnnnnnnnice!!! :bounce:These are some really beautiful studies you have here…I can see the reason for the interest in Rubens!
I really hope to see more of your work here…these are really excellent copies, would love to see you post more Drawings.
Do you do paintings as well? Would love to see those, too!
Thanks for the compliments! The forum is absolutely a great place with all sorts of great art being posted. I’m thrilled to be a part of it!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Hey
well its very kind of you to say so rebecca! I actually havent done many paintings - at least that I knew what I was doing - im really not going near painting until im sure that my drawing of figures is comfortable - (the anatomy stuffs driving me nuts at the moment!) - then i’ll move onto monochromatic painting, then color etc etc.
My brain is still trying to get around the fact that there are forums like this, all over the place, where people such as yourself, freely give out comments and crits - its wonderful. And i really do think that forums such as this, and the others, are more than probably bringing the general standard up, especially in the younger people. I wish there were places like this when I was in school… but yeah as I said - i really appreciate all the help and answers that you willingly give out!
On Rubens, im looking forward to seeing his work in london soon - but the thing with these exhibtions is that you really need to go twice. I really wish I could go and look at that Raphael exhibition all over again!
But Rubens drawings are absolutely wonderful - especially the 3 crayon portrait of Nicolaas Rubens - its like white, red and black chalk. Love that drawing.
woops it seems i’ve written a lot.
but anyway - thanks again for the help!
cheers
Gavin,
Thanks! You know, I know which portrait you’re talking about ~ though I’ve only seen it in Black and White. Here’s the portrait that blows me away: Rubens’ Portrait of Isalbella Brant ~ I wish!
This is one of my personal favorites.

Here’s the one you mentioned:

I know what you mean about the preponderance of free forums…I’m relatively new to them myself, and man do I wish these had been around when I was younger, and I also wish that I had belonged to this website sooner than this year! There are so many artists out there who do such amazing work that I never would have known or talked to without CGTalk…so I’m as appreciative of these things as you are.
Well, it’s better late than never!
Great to have you on the forum!
Cheers,

If anyone is looking for an INCREDIBLE master painter to copy and learn from, try googling Caravaggio. This guy is unbelievable and I think he might be my favorite painter of all time as of right now. I’m gonna be doing a copy of one of his paintings for a school assignment. I’ll be sure to post it here!
Wow. Some amazing master copies.
here is mine I did also from AAU Anatomy class 2nd Semester =P

One of Da Vinci’s master piece… I can’t seem to find the original image online…
I got this from a book.
Digiegg,
Nice to see this piece!
I truly love Master Copies, and I’m glad to see that they are reinforcing the practice in some schools these days. ![]()
I think it would be interesting to see what you might do with a Master Copy now, now that you have more experience under your belt, and would probably see things differently than you did.
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Here’s a michelangelo study from me I did yesterday.

Not sure what its called but you should know the one I mean
scorpion007,
Great to see you back on the forum! You’ve got a great start here on a copy of Michelangelo’s study for “The Libyan Sibyl” ~ a figure on the Sistine Chapel ceiling in Rome.
This is a really tough drawing to imitate ~ one of the hardest, in my opinion ~ and I’m thrilled to see you tackle it! You may find that over the course of your life, you will come back to copy the same drawings over and over again ~ I have certainly found this to be the case ~ and each time you come back, you will see and discover something new. This is the cool thing about doing Master Studies!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Yeah, definately not an easy one Rebacca
Here’s another one from today:

and heres the original:

after looking at it when i scanned it, i realize the head is too small, lol.
Heres a pencil and paper drawing I did for class as a study in line. Its a copy from Albercht Durer, its fairly large and took me about a week to finish
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b71/hamptone/ADurer.gif
Somehow missed your post! Nice to see this ~ my main crit is that the head is really small. I would definitely try tweaking this to enlarge it so it’s proportional to the body.
Nice to see more work from you!
Welcome to the forum! Wow, beautiful study! :applause:One recommendation is to copy and paste the URL of your image into the little yellow sun / mountain icon in your Edit Post Text Editor. Then your image will appear, and folks will not have to click on a link.
Are you currently in school?
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
