Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Final Layout

I think this will be my final layout sketch. I’m quite happy with this at the moment and will move on to get my character concepts down.

My initial post was edited to say I was going to illustrate the biblical story of Abraham’s sacrifice of his son Isaac.

I liked the idea because of the multiple master servant relationships.

God/ angel
God/ Abraham
Abraham/ Issac

When I submitted the concept sketch that info was taken out.

So today is not going to be a productive day at work for me. This challenge is the only thing I’ve been thinking about.

Some other ideas/themes I’m currently thinking about are:

[li]Drug addiction
[/li][li]Gang relationships; Mafia, Yakuza or even urban
[/li][li]A Japanese salaryman’s relation to his corporation
[/li][li]Domestic abuse (Spouse on spouse, Parent on child)
[/li][/ul]

We’ll see what happens when I start skecthing.

Fleshing out ideas for character placement, composition. At this point I’m leaning toward a modern interpretation of the Abraham/ Issac sacrifice.

The angel, the voice of God, will be pointinng “Abraham’s” gun arm at Issac while holding his oppisite arm, with baseball glove, behind his back.

The baseball glove will hopefully show the relationship between the “Abraham” and “Isaac”.

I’ve also thought about having “Abraham” facing or looking at the angel instead of “Isaac”.

I think in various versions of the story Isaac comes to accept the act but I think I want him to visibly reject it.

I’m not sure if I’m going to stick with a gun as the weapon. I know it doesn’t quite fit the bill as a tool for a sacrafice but I think it gives an immediate reaction.

I’ll post a more finalized concept when complete.
