Master and Servant 3D Entry: Tim Formica

pBarrelas

Thanks for the support! I’ve discovered that I seem to learn quicker and better when I have a challenge or goal so I’m really looking forward to doing this. I only hope that I can keep up with the pace of this challenge. CG is is a love and not an income so my day job is a first priority.

I’m not much of a sketch artist so I hope your not too disapointed when you see my drawings. I tend to think things out better as I build them in CG.

Hey Tim, don’t worry about not beeing a sketcher, just show your ideas and that’s fine by us and the jury!!

#9

Here’s my first rough sketch of Tommy the Ticket. To follow , teenagers, police and teen’s cars

You’re supposed to upload your images using the link CG Challenges gave you when you sign in for this challenge.
Try this: http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/
On the left panel, you see a tab named submit entry, there you’ll upload your images, from diferent milestones.
Hope this helped you!!

Here’s Tommy ticket in the rough. Lots of clean up to do, All suggestions are extremely appreciated. I keep getting these dam poles and I’m not sure how to fix it.

Bad pixel day, I need to come back to this later, need a diversion.

#16

Current Tommy the Ticket, gonna work on the ears next. I gave it a quick procedural texture just to get a feel of how it’ll look.

C&C’s greatly appreciated

btw - this is the first head that I have completed.

#17

greeting for building your first head. you can still refine it. give him better structure. fixing the stretching in the mouth corners and shaping better the eye area. the nostril is too thin. good luck with the ear modeling. keep it up

#18

smaddl,

Wow, Thanks for quick response and the C&C.

Yea I’m having a tough time with the lips, no matter what I do they keep coming out flat. I’ll post a wire later, perhaps you could make a suggestion or two. I think that once I get the three character’s heads finished the rest of the scene will go a bit quicker and a lot less frustrating. At least that’s what I 'm hoping for. Still to come lighting and textures which are a new frontier for me… this is all very exciting though.

#19

I just can’t seem to get the lips & eyes correct. I’d greatly appreciate your suggestions!

#20

I completely re-did the model. Added some sub surf scattering for the skin, adjusted the lighting and added Ambient Occlusion. I’m not happy with the lips, a bit more tweeking to do on them. The eyes will be covered with sunglasses so I’m not too worried about them. Next to work on, the space uniform and helmut.

I’m not sure if anyone is following this thread anymore, but if you happen to read this I’d greatly appreciate some feedback!

Tim

Well today I had an “aha” moment. It’s finally making sense, UV mapping, Photoshop textureing and a bit of sub surface scattering. I’ll redo th all the above add some hair and sunglasses then complete the space patrol uniform. After that I think I can speed up the process.

#22

hey Tim

Well …

Can u give us a full view of the uvmapped head ?
It’ll be better to judge the quality of your work.

ALso, …

Why is there a so big difference between the top of the head and the eye/nose/mouth part ?

cheers

Johan

Full view of head

#24

Thanks Johan,

This is my very first UV map, I was so exited that I could do it that I posted it. I know it needs a lot of work. I also used Manuel’s SSS script.

As to the proportions, I rotoscoped the head so the proportions are accurate. I think it’s the UV map that is off and it is giving the wierd perspective.

I’ll try and do a complete mapping tonight and post it.

#25

Tim for a first attempt it is not really bad :), maybe the map needs some little more bump.

Also an AO render would be great i think

And to conclude the eyes seems to be too toonish and not PR to me but anyway :applause:

cu Tim

Johan,

You are correct about the eyes, it was a simple texture that I had. I’m not too concerned about them because I am adding sunglasses.

I’m presently working on the skin - uv mapping etc.

I’ll try AO on the next render.

Thanks
