Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Feather Concept Test

I noticed in my initial concept that the brush strokes look a LITTLE like feathers. This wasn’t the intention but I wanted to see how this would look. So I did a quick test (about 20mins worth).Basically just an image with a transparent map, mapped onto a plane, duplicated many times and then constrained to a shape similar to the dress shape I was after. Didn’t turn out too bad but I still don’t know if I want the dress to be made of feathers. Obviously there are some issues with repeating texture etc as I only used the one map. Just another option to consider in my planning stages…

Only just decided to enter, can’t see me finishing in time but I thought I’d give it a go.
I have a good idea where I want to go visually for this.
We’ll see how I go…

#3

Just an early concept I’m going to be working from. Content isn’t exactly exciting but the visual style I have in mind will be very strong (I hope).
Hopefully I’m not too far behind from entering late…

Just sketching out concepts for a cuff for the arms

#5

I know this is looking very like a very literal interpretation of the master/servant concept, but this image will have more meaning than just the cuffs or prisoner type architype. Let’s just say the focus won’t be the cuffs…

Those feathres are awesomely realistic, i think.
Maybe some sort of specular would be nice…?
Anyway-the result is excellent

Personaly I really like the idea of a fathered dress.

Hi guys, thanx for your comments

taavi: thanx alot, yeah the spec would help out a alot, and maybe even break up the repeating a bit

arlutik: ta, there is something cool about a black feather dress, just have to see if it fits in with the style/look i’m goin for, and im thinkin it might

DaddyMack: thanks, well in my world… finished uni, working at home now and workin on my car. I’ve taken a longer then expected break with my beaver animation, think i need to do something different and then get back into it so here i am in this challenge  thanks again

just hired “the cell” on dvd to get some nice, morbid inspiration…

who’s ready for a mind F$!k? lol

#12

well that was a barrel of laughs lol

got some good inspiration, its such a disturbing yet visually beautiful and creative movie. And coincidently Jennifer Lopez wears a big white feathered dress in the movie

well, back to the drawing board for me with my new ideas

Cool designs and concept sketches. I like the results of your feather test, I think the the transperancy map is going work nicely. It would be cool see more of a shine (maybe from a specularity map) comming off the surface of the feather. Good stuff though, keep it up. Alexi
