Master and Servant 3D Entry: Philip Boltt
I was thinking for quite a while about the nature of the master - servant relationship. I found my thinking slipped quite easily into clichéd scenarios, of historical situations in which it has played out, or domestic situations where it plays itself out everyday. Didn’t feel comfortable finding truth in one of these scenarios, so have opted for a different perspective.
I’ve decided to look at the internal master-servant relationship between the soul and the brain…see if you can follow this.
Scenario
A man looks at a reflection of himself. He is in a suspended reality, etched by the stark shadow of a vertical light. He confronts the mirror, looking for a way to, seeking to dominate the image and force submission, but the mirror just reacts as it always done and his attempts bounce are dashed like raindrops on glass.
Until he stops.
His efforts exhausted.
And he sees a new way. A different approach. Not duality but unity. In this moment, the relationship is dissolved. The master and servant see each other through their facade and a new game begins.
Image
There is only one character in this image, but he is represented in many forms. He stands in front of a mirror on a mirrored floor. It is the moment of realization. Frozen in space, moments of his expressions of dominance, submission, rage, and fear appear suspended in an ethereal translucence. His eyes are alight. His arm outstretched towards the mirror. His hand has penetrated the mirror, as though it was just a mirage. He is becoming one with the mirror.
