Master and Servant 3D Entry: Paul Haynes

Here is my initial sketch (hope you can make it out), on the back of a scrap of paper (flash of inspiration when doing something else). I need to firm it up before rushing in.

The idea/concept is that of a rescue from a battlefield by rescue androids. They ‘serve’ and their only function is to find, protect and recover their ‘master’. The master in this case is probably a downed pilot (or two). All a bit unclear at the moment. It will probably be a desert type scene, craft overhead, incoming fire and the rescue craft in the foreground.

Thought I’d put down some of the static scene. I need to combine my initial concept with this scene to provide me with my final concept sketch. With time so tight I need to know, from the start, where I am going.

Just an update of the static scene. No characters as yet. Excuse the image the scanning has shown up the lines from the back of the paper. Trust me to use old line printer paper. Hope you can make it out. May rejig this to bring the escape pod (on the left) further into the scene as that is not very clear at the moment.

Latest update and my last concept sketch. The idea is the recovery of a downed pilot. The stick figures will be androids sent to protect and retrieve, to serve thier temporary master.

First idea on android. Lots to do and so little time. I need to be strict and keep the competition stages seperate or I’ll end up flicking back and forth between stages using up the precious time.

i imagine your concept would pose a challenge in terms more on the texturing, will they be shiny androids or worn out and heavily utilized ones?!
anyway, good luck to you as well.

First cut of android head. Having problems with sorting the joints but may use ‘artistic license’ :slight_smile: . Used copied joints just to get the idea on ‘shoulder’ positions. The overall android will have human body proportions. Already worried about the ‘hands’

Thanks for the comments. You are right on the texturing I’ll be keeping an eye on the texture map sizes in relation to the final image. I am steering toward well used androids with desert camouflage. With the time so tight I think it will all be a challenge. I need to ensure I still put over the Master/servant theme. Time to press on.

First stab at the android body. Got a mix of ideas here also too many joints in the ‘arms’. Please excuse the colours just temporary.

Thought I’d upload my latest idea on my android. I have gone round in circles to get this far. I take my hat off to anyone who can 3D model. The model is only the top half and joints are a bit iffy. I may run out of time in this competition but I’m aiming to take this idea all the way.

The entries I’ve seen are looking great.

Hi pch123, there’s definitely a bit of appeal coming into this character man…Keep playing with it.
As for modelling, it just takes practice…and practice…and practice…

Well I haven’t posted for a while. Time has really slipped away but I shall keep going with my idea. The android isn’t finished. But thought I’d put it up anyway.

Well here it is the final modelled android (final for now…version 8). Need to rig and texture and do the rest and only 18 days to go…hmmmmmm may not make it. How frustrating annoying surprising and delightful 3D is.

Ive had a go at fixing the joints. So here is a quick pose. The hand is not completely jointed. I will create hands for different poses.
