Need to fiddle with the lighting setup to give the servant better lighting…
Master and Servant 3D Entry: Gregory Werner
Tried a wider shot…Still not decided on the final camera…the resolution will be large on the final so details will be better…more room gives me better character placement possibilities…crits very appreciated
it’s seems he got a shaolin hairstyle :argh:…forgot to unhide the hair…
It’s done with an irradiance map (indirect illumination in v-ray)…and then a few touch ups in photoshop
Looks fine so far. I’d try reduce the secondary bounce a bit, cuz now, it looks a bit overbrightend. a levelcorrection in ps might also solve it. Keep it up my friend, supercool bunch a crew you’re trowing into your world! keep it up!

Hey Sacha
I’m acutaly getting rid of the secondary till the final render…turns out it made render times more than twice as long……now things are finaly back to speed…guess this challenge is a trial by fire experience…at least I’m getting to know the renderer pretty well
Looking good Greg. Being that the surrounding is creating a lot of shadows, I think the lighting should be a bit cool (although you probably took care of that already). How long does it take to render out these scenes? Are you planning anything else for these guys after the challenges? I can’t get the thought of this beign a big story out of my head.
Ace4016: Depends on the lighting settings…adding secondary bounces the render times shoot up to about 15-19 mins per frame…single bounce around 7,5 minute…Currently adding jewelry and stuff so I suppose the rendering times will change…
Didn’t think about doing anything more with them…it’s just a personal challenge. I want to see if I can take a full production cycle to see if burnout doesn’t kill me before the end :)…
A couple of years ago my dyploma work (a 6 minut short) took me around 4 months to create and the characters were simple compared to these…now I know my work flow is way better…and my cpu can handle most of the stuff I throw at it without crashing…
It’s nice that you see them in more than one scene…guess they work the imagination…a good thing in this field :)…
Changed the sky to a hand painted version (other was an old hdri pic) and now the lightings a bit altered
Trying out new clothes designs for some of the characters…here’s a new idea for the masters clothes…it’s a 25 minut paintover in ps…
Ok the clothes are finaly at there base model…gonna get to texturing soon…had a couple of setbacks due to a currupt file
I’ll be out of town for the weekend…next update will be around Tuesday
Cya all, have a nice weekend ![]()
Looks pretty good. Can’t wait for the desing on the dress like in the paintover. Have you noticed that the white is a bit bright, almost self-illuminating? Might be my monitor though.
Hi Greg,
You have a really living scene setup. As a viewer i can place myself directly into the scene. Good work on characters also. You have a greate sense of foreground/backround scenery.
Keep it up!
Tremo
Small texturing update…unwrapped and scetched out…still have to draw in better shadowing and material…
Ok …I’m baaaaack…thought I’d jump back to the project nicely refreshed after a long absence from my computer…
ace4016: Ok so here you have it the paintover made 3d…it’s still in it’s early stages but it’s slowly getting there…cut down on the GI of the cat so the paws look better now.
Tremoside:Thanks for the complements
it’s nice to see positive replies alongside the crits that are also very helpfull…This week I’ll add in two new characters so I’ll finally be able to place the whole cast where they’re needed :)
It looks like painted. I guess the texture isn´t finished, but I think it needs more resolution to add details.
This project is going on very well, and you´re working a lot!
bealobo: I’ll try and work on the details tomorrow…just came back from my frends wedding today …and still recovering from the party after
heya
I think the pose of the cat lady needs some tweaking… the weighting and sense of gravity seems a little odd. Is she leaning forward or backwards? pulling? away?
I think maybe she could be on her toes, or heels… depending on the action…
the patterns on the textures look cool… very ethnic and gives a sense of tradition and culture… nice work
Versiden: Thanks for the tip. I’ll try and repose her today. Need to add details to the shoes too…
