Master and Servant 3D Entry: Dave Whiting

#20

KidMesh: As I mentioned somewhere near the beginning, I do indeed want the dog to be super evil. It’s a juxta’ of the doll like woman and the brutal, almost vampiric dog. I like the way in movies like the Omen, the dog is like some servant of evil, so I want her to look a little vampish, whilst maintaining a sense of purity.

I’m glad you’re on my wavelength.

I’ve been mucking around with proportions and out fits and have finally settled with this.
I know I’m doing alot of concept stuff, but you really have to get things right before you start modelling such a grand project.

#22

I’ve decided to change the scene slightly to a downtown alleyway. I think it will look much better as I’ll have alot more detail to play with. I’m not going to change the angle of the camera.

I’m also halfway through making the dog model. I’ll post what I’ve done after I’ve had some sleep.

#23

About an hour into the dog modelling. As ypu can see it’s starting to take shape already. No major problems so far!

#24

double post - sorry!

#25

I’ve done some more to the doggy. I like to switch from xsi to zbrush repeatedly, meshing in xsi then tweaking and sculpting in zbrush. the mouth and paws lack form at present, but I’m saving those for last as they have the highest level of detail.
How does the overall topology look at the moment? All criticisms gladly accepted.

#26

painted some more detail in zbrush. looks like pluto at the moment! loads of sculpting on the head still todo…

#27

looking good, mookid. i’ve been thinking of giving zbrush a whirl on this challenge, too. have you been using it long? was it hard to get up to speed? i like that you seem to be going for a sort of stylized look. love your avatar, BTW.

#28

I’ve had zbrush for about a month. I found it quick to learn, but some of the workflow was a little unusual so it took me a little getting used too. I think that it is a great package for getting artistic results without the technical hassles. It’s also a much more intuitive to sculpt with. - like plasticine!

Hey everyone! I’m off to my friends place for the Easter weekend. I wish every one the best of luck with their concept sketches and modelling. I guess by the time I get back home my thread will be relegated to page 30! So, keep popping in and dust the cobwebs for me.

Oh, DON’T FORGET TO FEED THE DOG!
