Latest Update: Concept Sketch: color palette

Well, I got a better idea than the other. It’s a simpler idea, and I know exactly what kind of poses and colors I want in it, so it’s going to be much easier to paint. This here is color palette that I have in mind for this picture.

The concept is and elven prince who fancies his human servant girl. The scene is depicting when she is walking past him in the hallway and he grabs her by the arm and kisses her. Simple as that.

The rose and burgundy colors are the colors of the prince’s clothing, the orange and brown is the background, the cream the color of the servants dress, and the green the color of the apples in a basket she has in her arms.

Plain and simple, but I like this one a lot more than the Priestess/God concept, and I feel much more inspired by this one as well. I’m working on the compositional layout/concept sketch, then when that’s done I’ll submit a quick lineart and starting painting! Woohoo!

Yes, very very sloppy and sketchy, I know. I’m just trying to work out composition at this moment in time. Trying to work out a few shapes, select the right colors, etc. Not happy with it, but it’s a first try. I’m definitely going to do something else.

steph, i think if you put the person with the knife hovering over the one in the chair, your composition will be much more interesting and concept would be more clear, good luck

Well, I didn’t like this composition to begin with, this was basically just to get the idea down on paper…in a manner. Thanks for the input though!

Alright, I’ve had this wole concept in my head ever since I entered this Challenge, but I’m not sure of how to portray it. I have certain elements I want to include, certian moods, and certain emotions. I’m going to write everything I can think of and see if you guys could possible help me out with background and posing ideas. Because everything I come up with won’t work.

The concept:

A priestess who has been serving her God with complete loyalty and unrelenting servitude for fifteen years (or something) feels that she isn’t being treated at all fairly for her hard work. So she confronts her God with the Dagger of Jentara, and famous knife that has the power to destoy the immortals. (She doesn’t actually want to kill him, just threaten him).

Anyways, so when she’s telling her God that she wants some sort of reward or payment for her wonderful service, she gets the notion that he isn’t listening to her. That is proved true when he begins to change back into his statue form. The gods, when in “hibernation state”, are the statues in their temples. When they aren’t they are flesh but still immortal.

When she sees him turning to stone, she falls into a rage and attacks him. She only manages to stab him after his is almost completely stone, but it still kills him. And the minor gods curse her for, so that any human she makes eye contact with dies, yadda yadda yadda.

So that’s the storyline.

I want to capture her just when she pulls the dagger out and starts to attack the God. She will have a very angry face one, and he will have a face full of fear and surprise. I think I want the god on a lower level than her, as though he is falling as she is attacking him. I want him looking at the knife too.

For the background, I’m not really sure, but I think I want a sort of outdoors shrine/temple kinda of deal, with vegetation and such. I also want a pediment for the “statue God” to stand on.

So, now that I’ve run all this through my head, I’ve realized it’s only the composition I need help with. AKA where’s the God’s throne, pediment, where’s the trees, where are they?

I liked the story very much , nice thinking there.
I imagined the god standing, slowing down in midstep,
eyes closing as he drifts to dreamland and begins to
turn to stone.
but sitting is just fine too :smiley:
also I’d put him to stone so only the head and one arm
would be still flesh.
The composition is a tough one though , I wish you
luck with it:D

Thanks for the input! I was actually thinking more along the lines that only his feet and calves were stone in the pic and the rest of him was still flesh. She’s only just pulling out the dagger to attack. Ugh…I must come up with something! Gah! :cry:

I think that this concept is what I’ll go for as far as basic layout and positioning goes. I like the poses.

This is very, very rough and didn’t take a lot of time. I’m just getting the layout down for now.

I still need to figure out things like the background and lighting and a few other details, but I think I have a fairly good start now. And I have plenty of time over the weekend to think about such things.

I’m going away for the weekend, I have a competition in Chicago. I don’t get to have any computer access while I’m gone, but I will take my sketch pad and work on important things such as perspective, anatomy, proportions, etc.

I have an updated idea on the original concept I had in mind, because the first sounded a bit too corny…or something.

So instead of the priestess being upset about “no reward” she was emotionally destroyed when the God made love to her, breaking his own laws and ruining her forever. So she confronts him, with the dagger, intending to make him restore her dignity by wiping the memory from her mind and allowing her to continue her servitude. But when he isn’t swayed and begins to turn back to stone she pulls out the dagger and threatens him. Unfortunately, in her emotional distraught (spell?) her shaking hands accidently dropped the dagger, and it fell into the God, killing him.

Also, she has brilliantly color eyes, the most stunning in the land. Because she “killed” the God, she is cursed, so that any human who makes eye-contact with her will die.

Eh-hem, PLEASE tell me is this still doesn’t sound right. I’m not liking how the God ends up dying yet. Could use help there. :confused:
