Latest Update: Coloring WIP: going the portrait route

Well, after much deliberation i decided that i need to go with a diffrent approach to the piece. I started it out with the idea to do a ‘portriat’ and decided i should folow that true and let the characters attempt to carry it on there own, and the bg just help complement them. So, i busted out a bunch of portriture (i need to learn to spell that damn word) books and see how it was done. In all honesty I havnt the slightest idea if this is the ‘right’ way, but hey, lifes a big experiment and i think its feeling a hell of alot better.

welcome! this looks nice! what´s that thing on the floor?

good luck

#4

It shall be, a cricket. or cicada. or one of them buggy things that boys like to play with (or feed to spiders depending on if you could find one).

#5

This is a nicely drawn picture, but what are you trying to say with it? It seems like it could get across the Master and Servant idea more strongly. Good luck!

#6

I think its a bit hard to see the leash the boy is holding thats attached the woman in the background. It will be almost the center piece in the finished version. That should push my idea a bit better.

what’s up dude,

Nice start. I really like the style. Good sketch. i’ll be in touch with this piece.

Goodluck,
Archie

Great sketch…

#9

quick color comp. still am stumped on what to do with the BG

#10

what’s up dude,

I like the choice of colours. I think its coming out nice. As for a background, my suggestion is, create a one point perspective of a china town kinda setting (since you mention that they are taking a walk) so you can show some depth. It would be nice to see it with a good amount of crowd behind them, but blur it or create it like a sillouehte (spelling it wrong huh), less detail, less colours and the camera’s focus is them three.
OR
If you want something for intimate, do the same one point perspective and create a fall season kind of setting. A little dark and gloomy kinda atmosphere, but it sets the mood of the piece.

i hope this helps dude.
cheers,
Archie

Not a bad idea, not bad at all.

#12

added a bg sketch.

allrighty then. Got myself a palette and a compositiong, rough as it may be, im on a time limit so i’ll run with it as far as i can and hopefully not go head first and smack into a wall.

#14

Lovely!!!

cheers: Kornél

Ah, see now, you’re getting somewhere really good. with this background, you can do more with your character placement. BTW, i really like that lifeless feeling on the female, but i would go opposite with the kid though.

cheers,
Archie

Well, started to lay in the paint over the enlarged rough. Trying to get a feel for how far im going to take the image. Painting the Background is going to give me nightmares. I have spent so much time doing character art I have neglected my BG skills and am not quite sure how to approach it. Bitch and Moan right

Just want to say your character is looking nice. I really like this character.
About painting the background, if you need any help, just ask me or anyone in this forum. People here are very helpful and they don’t mind giving advice or some tips.

cheers,
Archie

I really like the style you have. Also it reminds me of some game i must have played… Dunno. Very familiar anyhow.

No real advices for you. Youre doing everything right.
