Thanks for the replies, y’all.
Wizard, CoryaArt & Dreamshark: I want to finish the lines before I get to far into colors… but I have some color tests I worked on today that I will post in a little bit. I just got Painter9 so I will be playing with that a lot when I go to colors.
Redfrog: I think I will be using the second pose, since it is more evocative of the pain of a brutal beating. The other pose I felt was dominating the composition too much. Even though the pharaoh is in the background, I want him to remain important. With the peasant down on the ground I feel it helps keep the eye moving around in a sort of elliptical flow around the composition… from him, up to the concubines, over the the pharaoh and the priest, then to the daughter, down to the soldier, and then down the whip back to the peasant. A second arching path goes around the peripheral characters as well. Here’s a quick outline of what I feel this composition is doing:
If I used the first pose, it would break up that flow. I think with some tweaks to the character’s final positions, the composition will work well.
the1stAngel: I checked out yours and it’s looking great. I love your sphinxes! I am glad we are doing different approaches to the Egyptian theme.
Updates coming soon.
