Latest Update: Concept Sketch: flower keeper
Here i have a new concept, its a beast who was raised to protect a magical flower, the legend about what the flower do is lost but people are curious about it so they venture to the cave where the flower grows but the cave is protected by a beast, the beast is the servent of the flower.
Here is my concept the challenge, it is a girl riding on the monster telling it which way to go while the monster is trying to go another way. This monster is still in its teens but very strong and skillful, it is still in its playful stage and not yet matured. The girl riding it is a warrior also in her teens, like the monster she is very strong and skillful. When war comes, the girl takes controls and the beast follows her direction to battle enemies, the loyal beast combined with the knowledge of the girl is the key to their success. she is the master and the beast is the slave in the battle field, but when it comes to play, the beast becomes the master because it decides where to go and what to do no matter how hard the girl tries to pull the leash, she finds that she is no longer in control. Although she resist the beast always gets its way.
this is my first time entering this challenge, i dont know if im posting this right, i think i already posted my first concept twice, how do i delete that? but anywho, here is the line art
Hey i like the idea of this so far…after reading the back ground of the two characters, i was thinking you should put them in a situation that shows the Beast making a decision that the Beauty obviously wouldn’t make. That could be good or bad, life or death. It’s like when I am walking my dog (Jack Russel Terrier) and she wants to sniff and say hello to every dog she meets, but i can obviously tell which ones she shouldn’t be going up to…SHe’s almost got her head snapped off plenty of times. This relationship you have presented is much more serious though, if they are to fight as a unit.

i refined the creature and the girl and deleted the background, i dont know what to do for hte background yet
here is another concept, the girl is a master of the forest, and the spirits in the forest are her servent, but in a way they are eachother’s servent, her job is to protects the forest and the spirits that lives in it while the forest and the spirits helps her defet her enemy who tries to destroy the forest.
i have decided to merge the 2 concept together to see how it look, what do you think?
so more coloring done, critique would be very helpful at this point :-d no body loves me

Its a nice start so far, your work makes fast progress. look at me, i’m still sketching 
To know what causes light and shadow, study the details. make yourself some study pages, my desk is filled with em. Work on the anatomical details, muscledefinition of the beast and master. also, the hands of the master could use a work out. I like the dynamic you added to him, just don’t overhaste your progress.
then, when nailed all details, work on the composition itself.
Composition:the heavy, dark forest need some light up, to help the feel for depht, i suggest (the rays of light are caused by the sun lighting up the athmoshpere) to make yourself clear what the background is going to be layered like. than, build up the fog layers. that could help.
for the colorscheme, thats pure matter of taste, but at the moment its a bit unballanced for my eyes.

I was actually looking for my thread using the sarch feature and ran into your thread as well… looks like we’re using the same subject! LOL 
Your work looks great so far and it looks like youve progressed a lot from sketch to coloring. I think the only thing I can say is just keep working on it, for me illustrations dont start coming to life until things like working in your shadows and highlights start happening. From that point, I think its easier to kinda get an idea of what should be worked on next.
Looking forward to seeing how you flesh out the beast and the girl too, especially the beast. That thing has so much potential to look gross as hell… I love that sort of stuff! Good luck man and hit me up when you post your next update so we can keep each other motivated!
