Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Lighting

I got fed up working on the expressions so I decided to take a break and start figuring out the lighting scheme. I also made the manta ray bigger. I am having a rough time getting the pose of the man in the glass bowl just right so he’s not in the picture yet.

The idea began as a sailor trapped inside a underwater fishtank with mermaids swimming around. I added the manta ray to be a more specific master. It was originally going to be a dolphin (since humans tend to have dolphins in cages) but there is no way to make a dolphin fit such a sinister role. At least none that I found. As of now I am not satisfied with the positioning of characters and I am really not satisfied with their expressions. The one on the left needs to have more of a look like the sailor is the cutest thing in the world. The one on the right needs to appear more seductive. I am pondering what the sailor should be more afraid of (to whom he is giving his attention). Possibly the manta ray since he is the scariest, but I thought the mermaid would be more comical. Either way he needs to appear more scared. Also the fish bowl needs some heavy perspective work. Oh well, this is only a concept.
