Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Change of Plans

Change of plans again. Now we have a squiddy and the squid master. Its probably going to be a Kraken and the Kraken… master. The difficulty im having with this picture is capturing the scene with a giant monster and his master. To completely capture the scene where a master and kraken are vividly present is hard.

Ill post my sketch real soon. Tomorrow maybe. Have to retrieve my scanner someplace.

While doing the sketch ive run into a problem. Hopefully some of you exprerianced artists can solve it. When doing my sketch i found out that i couldn’t possibly get all the detail i wanted into a 11x14 paper. Do i just draw smaller, or do i get bigger paper?

If you truly feel comfortable drawing large then get larger paper. But then there’s the question of scanning, unless you have access to a large format scanner it’s going to be a pain scanning it. It ends up being a matter of subject matter and taste. I would say if you don’t want to get too big but still concentrate on detail then draw different parts and then scan each element separately and put it together in Photoshop. In the end pick what’s best for you in the time management department so your not over whelmed by due date.

Best of Luck!

My scanner is not big enough for 11x14 paper so i got all the detail i could from it. Hes missing his head and all. As you can see i blow things up to the maximum size all the time.

Anyway my intentional idea was to have this guy crucified on a cross made up of televisions. Those things you see protruding from him are not sperm. They are infact wires holding him in place. The main idea is this guy is being enslaved by the television. He would have a tv in front of him, and im hoping to have some sort of crazy emotion on his face.

looks intersting, however i’ll wait for your updates to see more. goodluck with the scanner bussiness.

Hi there, looks like your having a few size problems. may I suggest sketching on A4 size paper…try to get your rough composition into this wether it be portrait or lanscape. You get a better idea of proportions when sketching smaller as you can see everything in relation. It’s easier to scan as well… do you have photoshop or similar photo manipulation software? that helps in sizing and changing things around. it’s a good idea to scan at say 72dpi to start with otherwise your files end up huge! - hope this helps, I’ve done real detailed paintings on A4 size and they scaned brilliantly so it can be done! - jez

Always having trouble with composition and how i am going to accomplish anything. Right now im still stuck on figuring out how to first of all place the daemon then to figure out whats the best look for him. Anyway, i cant get either to look interesting enough, the daemon will be the largest creature in this painting, so im having trouble with the way his appearance will deliver, i want him to be scary. Heres a couple of heads im trying out.

Im pretty much scrapping that idea with the crucified guy, the new scene is going to take place in a really big room. The room will be a summoning chamber for a powerful sorcerer.

The story so far relates to the theme of Master&Servant on 2 levels. Master to Servant, and Master to Slave. The protagonist, if you will, is the sorcerer, his servant would be his “familiar” usually an imp of some sort, and the daemon will the slave.

Ill develop the story later on.

Just a test of where to put the daemon.
