Honestly I loved your first concept you started out with. Just as I read through so many scenes just popped through my mind. I couldn’t help recall the dogs I would see around those that are asking for help or fod in the streeets. The contrasting of the painful pleed of the man for how much he is starving and the joyful look on the face of the dog as to him it is not a bumb standing right next to him, nor a lost case. The dog just loves the guy and unconditionally, and all he see’s is a delay before the next time they play together.

It is a great tisk that you decided to not go on with it.

On the other hand I love your latest aswel. It would be very fitting to bring up the unjust situation that was brought upon the natives.

Your going for a very impressive selection of ‘touchy’ subjects. But with a much more mature approuch than a few I have unfortunately came across in this challange. It is a pity that you are so busied with work. It would be great to have seen some more updates turn out. Your colouring is fantastic.

Ok, so I’ve worked on the composition more, and i think this is an improvement. I’ve lowered the eyelevel and tried to make the positions more dynamic. I scanned this and uped the contrast so you could see it better. I’d love some opinions…and hopefully I can get to some line art soon.

Line art is here…it’s done in a bit of a hurry, but this stage really isn’t too critical because in my process no line art is in the final it all gets painted over. So this is just like a road map telling me where to go. There is still some stuff in here that isn’t set in stone and I may change it as I color it. This is all I have time for today. Oh and the top one is just a close up of the overall which is the lower one in case you were confused.
edit: i just noticed that the lft front foot (the farthest one away) of the horse that is blown up is just wrong…will correct later. And I forgot to mention earlier that the light grey shading stuff is just to show lighting concept.

I like the theme your going for alot and your drawing in excellent. I saw you mention you were going for a ruben’s type style and I think you really hit on it with the rearing horse. I think it would be more evocative and have a neater composition if you could have the Natives horse falling/sliding almost underneath the hooves of the dominant horse, And have some interaction between the two horses eyes so not only the rider’s are master and servant but the two horses are master and servant too.

Nice sketches. I love your theme too. The movements of your horses are very expressive and realistic, which merges and strenghtens your storytellin. I can’t wait to see your progress too and hope you post more.

He-Hey… An update!!

Things are getting pretty active in your lay-out!
I can’t help but reffer to a study from one of the most greatest masters, Da Vinci: Battle Of Anghiari! And that can only mean good!
The dynamism and action has been very well captured all through out.

I KNOW this is just a sketch, and I am more than sure you are going to fit things in better. But at some points the proportions of the guys riding the horses and the horses don’t exactly match up. The same thing goes to the depth of the scene with the foreground/background proportions.
But putting that aside. I think you have captured some serious curves in your work.

tiny update…just playing with some colors…not too terribly exciting…but i wanted to do something with this today and this is all i had time to do…anyways I’d love some feedback on this. I do have one i like better out of these but i will save my opinion on this so it won’t affect what people say.

I think I would like to see you figure things out in the general atmosphere of the second one; or actually also the last one which seems like a sort of overlay of the first and the second.
I would actually want to see some pale and cold colours introduced. But definately with the ‘redrock’ feel of the second.

I am sure you have already gone way to far on your project, so… Well will just have to see how you get things out.

Oh my…I have been so stressed, overworked, sick and haven’t had hardly any time to work on this. It’s tragic really. So I feel like I am really behind in this and I don’t know if I can get it done in time, but I’m gonna try. So anyways, here’s what I’ve done on and off for the past whatever…thought my thread at least deserved an update. :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool. I haven’t seen you update in a while, but this is looking good. I like the painting quality of it. It has a very pastel kinda style. The horses are looking great. I would love to see this finish.

I really think that’s looking good. I can definately understand what’s going on and i really dig that pastelly quality to it. I see what brush you are using, but just the way you execcute those brush strokes, really nice. :thumbsup:

Hi Melody,

Your painting has a classical feel to it, I like it.
I think you horses look great, but the anatomy of the human figures could use more attention I think. Maybe you should use some ref, I don’t know if you do, but google around and I’m sure you’ll find some indians/cavalry on horseback.
The horse on the ground (body) looks small compared to the other two horses.
I also can’t tell what’s going on between the cavalryman and the indian.

Nevertheless, great job!
