Master and Servant 2D Entry: Linda Bergkvist

#881

—First time I’ve popped in on your thread…I think…although secretely I’ve been drooling over your use of colors and textures for some time. I just wanted to say your work is quite delicate and very sensual. I wish you all the luck with your upcoming book project and this entry as well.

:applause:

When do you find the time? Who needs sleep anyway…

Just Fantastic work! Could we expect less from you? Well, If I have to nitpick. I feel this work is not as relaxed as your other works mainly are, because you did so much details (just too much sharpness in them) in some places and now the overall feeling is slightly busy. Well, those are just my thoughs. Never try to teach Master how to do things… hehe

#886

Beautiful work, as all yours.

Really good details, I love the color.

Good luck with the challenge.

Herregud. (OMG for those not swedish)

Du är otroligt skicklig, varför är du inte mer känd i Sverige?

Ser skitbra ut, och som någon annan sa, väldigt sensuellt och känsligt.

Very nice, truly detailed. But why are the birds so flat? The image has depth but the birds and butterflies seem stuck in a flat world (all the birds look to either left or right). Perhaps a bit angle on some of them, and some behind the females, not in front since it would cover your excellent work

Truly fantastic

Waiting for environnement improvement   :bounce:

Guess who worked on the painting again?

It feels better now that I’ve ditched the other concept (or, rather - I finished it, but not for the contest). It’s a better thing to focus on only one painting at the time, I think, and now this is it. If I feel like doing another painting, I should do it on the side, finish it quickly as I usually do, and then get back to the main concept.

Now… I’ve listened to the advice, and I decided to add a dead bird. I hated painting it, hated looking at references for it, but I like the result (even if I don’t like looking at it). I have issues looking at dead animals - much more so than dead people. Is that very weird of me?

To make up for the dead bird, I painted a little field mouse in the folds of Nature’s clothes. I’ve worked on a blurry, distant bird in the background. I’ve also reworked the folds on Humanity’s clothes a bit, but I’ll show that in the next update, for now there are just these details.

Anyway, as always, I appreciate all the comments and all the lovely advice :] Thank you, folks!

I just wanted to add: massive hugs to everyone who is being so helpful. I love being part of a community again, like this - I’ve missed it ever since I closed my own forums down. It’s very rewarding :]

Linda - It’s looking lovely, as always! The details really make this piece come alive, although that particular turn of phrase is probably only appropriate for the right side of the image!

I like the dead bird, but you could take it further. (I know, you’re just so excited about doing that! But if it’s on the ground, one might expect it to be in a much further state of decrepitude than the things dying in the air. Right now, it comes off as a bird lying on the ground, could even still be alive. It’s even got all its feathers, unlike the birds still in the air. But maybe if its more decayed…? There’s a great picture in one of the more recent Spectrums by Wes Benscoter, a cover to a magazine called “Your Flesh Monthly,” with a cat holding a very deceased, very maggoty (sorry!) bird… I’d post a link but I can’t find the iamge anywhere online, even on his web page. But you must have some Spectrum collection books, maybe you know the one I mean…? Anyhow, might drive home the point a little more… And I’m sorry for saying anything about it, simply because you were quite clear about how much you just love painting dead animals.

The mouse is really wonderful and cute, though… Good karmic balance!

Could I ask what is going on with the bloody hand? I mean, I get that it’s bloody, but with the dark smear above Nature’s knee, it almost looks like the left woman used her nails and took a major chunk of flesh out of Nature’s leg! I just wasn’t sure. If that’s not the case, maybe a little thinner coat of blood, with some more skin showing through and more of an emphasis on the drips could help it read better.

Anyhow, it’s looking quite lovely. I’m sure you’ll find something else to tweak with in the next month or so… Good luck!

-mike

this is way beyond the power of perception of my mortal mind…it looks wonderfull…that’s all i can say

#895

Hello again:D

Keep coming back here:bowdown: just love it…

Only thing I want to throw in is… the bloody hand… why?.. just looks so out of place… I almost cried  (lol)…

I did prefer it without… But that’s just me… other than that… the Mouse rocks:buttrock:… and I have to agree with the Walrus regarding the mint-condition dead bird… I would expect signs of decomposure at least…

Saying anything about your work is like telling the messiah that the wine he just created is a little bit fruity for your taste lol… I love all of your work and could easily see it in a modern/historical art museum/gallery…

Keep it up…
Jimmi:D

you set the standard… i really dont know how u do it… deatils are amazering

#897

uhm…can i have another hug?

#898

Heheh, thanks guys :] I’m definitely going to… decay the bird a little, but give me some time! It’s really tough for me to paint dead animals (as silly as it may sound), I think I’m going to have to take it in stages. Bit by bit. One thing with insects, birds are another altogether. I’m not even going to let any mice slip over on the ‘bad’ side - no way I can paint dead mice. Eee. I love mice.

And rats  so no dead ratties, either.

I might tone down on the bloody hand a little, but I really like it  I’ll see if I can compromise.

#899

The dead bird brought tears to my eyes.
