Latest Update: Line Art: A little Closer
After some clean-up I think I’m starting to get a clearer direction. This is my first real attempt at 2D work so it’s been a lot of trial and error learning what techniques will give me the look I’m going for. If I’m lucky this will turn out somewhat close to how I see it in my head.
As soon as I read the challenge title this is the image that immediately came to mind. This is my first time entering (anything for that matter) and I’m nervous about it. From the WIP I’ve seen so far from a number of people this will definitely be a challenge for all. Good luck to everyone.

I love how delicate this looks. Great job so far. And it looks pretty controversial too. I like it. Looking foreward to how you end up colouring it.

About the picture, it’s looking interesting, but I’d check the composition. Right now the space on the left really isn’t doing anything. Where’ll the lightsource be? Is the circular thing in upper left the sun? If so, might want to put it elsewhere, because the shadow would cover the man’s face and we’d be losing some of his expression. Hmm, have you tried making him lean a bit more backwards?
Edit: just noticed, the woman’s torso’s looking a bit strange. If that lump above the corsette is her breast, given that she’s bending down, I think it should be positioned higher on her body (a bit more towards the neck).
You really could do some wonderful things with the background. More slaves, ornate architecture, etc.
The man doesn’t seem like he is enjoying himself which got me thinking…
…if you could make the man desheveled and destitute (some dirt & tatered clothing would do the job) and make the woman the rich one (with jewels, fine clothing, etc.) you could have some very interesting emotional dynamics.
Just a thought…
I just finished a huge project at work so I should have some time to devote to finishing over the next few weeks. Thanks for the input… I think sometimes my critical eye suffers from occational short term blindness. I’ve made a few corrections to the female figure that should move her from freakish to just slightly off :). As for the male figure… it’s my intention that he be more preoccupied in thought than enjoying the moment. I should have a color WIP up soon and again… thanks for the comments.
