Latest Update: Coloring WIP: Angel and Demon

Started to play around with the different colors and tried to achieve different moods using a different type of environment. I originally wanted it to be very dark with lots of red and orange hues but with the fire, lava and all, everything looked too oranged and the overall image didn’t really seem to interesting to me. Then I tried to use a more natural forest tone, but it seems rather peaceful and doesn’t exactly convey that mood I am looking for right now.

Still a long way to go, but here’s a WIP. Of course comments and suggestions are welcomed!! Good luck to everyone!!

This wasn’t my initial concept which was originally more sci-fi. But here’s something I thought of while brainstorming for different ideas. Something with a little more meaning. Master and servant theme between TV-kid, kid-toy, toy-toy. The idea is not final at this point. I may for for something completely different in the end. Suggestions?

I like it! :slight_smile: Thats a great idea! I realy like the sketch. I dont have much of anything to crit. It has good composition, great lighting, mabie a little bit more “under” lighting on the kids face? make him look a little more sinnister?

I’m like’ing the newer layout of the little toys, alot more dynamic… the next thing i’d suggest ~ maybe fiddling withthe position of the TV/Moniter in the background ~ that could improve the flow of the peice yeah?

A very late start, but I finally just finished a crazy school term and at the same time finished doing a parttime freelance job. I really wanted to participate in this challenge so here we go. A new concept since the last one didn’t recieve too many feedbacks. More fantasy theme related. I’m already working on the lineart as I speak mainly because I am running out of time already. I did these few pages of concept the other day, and merged them together into 1 image.

And here’s the lineart! Drew in lightly with an H pencil since I’ve decided to render it somewhat realistically as opposed to the more comic approach to coloring I wanted to go for in the beginning. I would’ve cleaned up the line art and perhaps even inked it, but the way I have it pictured in my mind, chances are that most of the lineart is going to be covered up when rendered anyway so I’ll save myself some time by leaving it as is. I’m thinking of having flowers coming out from where she’s standing which has been lightly penciled in, blood on her feathered wings, and leaves on the trees in the very far distant background. The leaves and plants are dying around the demon creature. Also there are going to be lava and fire all around the environment and those have been lightly penciled in as well but are barely visible.

The leash (part which she is holding on has flowers coming out of it) goes inside the ground, comes out as a chain that secures around the demon’s neck/arms which I hope to have it glow.

Also for more detail there are heads sticking out of the demon’s body… and perhaps I’ll have fire coming out of his torso area where there are sharp fangs but I’m still deciding on what to do there…

Now, onto coloring! Where all the fun starts!

I really like your composition yan-man~ and in regards to choice lighting… i too feel it’ll need some work… having the entire scene orange kinda dulls the peice… and your choice of adding greener tones was an improvemnent (nice work on desaturating the far bkg)…

For now I really don’t have anything I can say to help you with the colour choice… I’ll try thinking over ideas ~ and get back to you…

I like the first one - the orange one - more than the other. It’s a more unconventional color palette, and is more dramatic. And the color of the woman’s clothes and skin feel more like they fit in the environemnt’s palette in that shot, too.
