what’s up dude,

Interesting, very interesting concept. The style is great too. Can’t wait to see more.

cheers,
Archie

right after I posted it i started to notice an interruption in the “flow” of the whole thing, so i tweaked the Thinkers around a bit.kinda realized that if this were to take place in space only Mr. Steak would be insane enough to bother with gravity:)

#11

brief change, the contrast of levels between my photoshop and painter is freakin me out

#12

man ur work is ssooo freaky and original, cant wait to see some colours…wish we could rate threads, it would be fun:thumbsup:

#13

I would be careful with that foot. It looks a little cartoony / too exaggerated. Maybe some ref would help out with that one.

Love the way the dudes head fades off into the background. Thats a very nice effect. It eliminates the possibility of his face being the focal point, which I imagine is the desired effect.

Looking really nice KEv! keep it up!

#14

hey thanks pally. the idea towards it’s final version will be more cartoony as far as proportions and lines go. so i’m messing with making the foot pretty whacky proportionally speaking. expect to see a more stylized direction in later itterations.

#15

Very nice sketches (great character design… love the sleeper!). Looking forward to seeing this one progress! Cheers!

#16

Wow. I like your style and your concept a lot. Sounds like something Doug Adams could have written in his Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy. I’ll keep an eye on this thread: utterly promising

#17

crowley-thanks alot! I am a huge fan of Douglas Adams and every year or two I like to reread the hitchiker’s series as a sort of comedic tradition. So needless to say that’s a great compliment. I love your style by the way, you have great loose and confident lines there. Nice to see so many styles to compete with in this contest.

artjunkie-gracias, I look forward to my progress too:) let’s see if my job will give me a free evnening to focus on it! I look forward to seeing where you go on your piece too. I love the background you’ve got up there especially, reminds me of my home in northern california:)

nebezial-thanks alot man, coming from someone who works in your skill level is a great compliment indeed, really helped keep me motivated.

muttonhead-I see you at work every day, and already gave you a response…so go away:) kidding, i kid! thanks for the feedback, I’ll be tackling what I want to do with mr. steak this weekend. He tends to be a bit of a hinderance in the image at the moment, we must make him one with it!

paperclip-just noticed I never gave you a direct response. Thanks for the feedback as well. Hopefully since the sketch you see that I’ve made efforts to integrate the left thinker more in to the image. I’m a big fan of your approach to the contest too, can’t wait to see that clever piece come together:)

#18

a slightly different exploration in the composition. trying to bring things closer the camera. pushing the Sleeper further into the background.

#19

Whoa! You totally changed the composition… Are you settled on this? i kind of liked some of the stuff that was going on in the original composition, with the 2 or 3 heads instead of just the one… Also, Mr. Meat is now turned away from us… not sure if that is the right choice… but i could be convinced with the proper motivation…

_Sean

#20

it’s Mr. Steak! not Mr. Meat…geez after all the time we’ve known eachother too:) anyhow this is an experimental composition. After some brainstorming with some of our more creative coworkers I think I know where I’m gonna go with it. So no this isn’t the final composition just an experiment to get some feedback. Thanks though Chutneyhead…er Mutton.

#21

Man so many distractions! anyhow what’s new:) I took a week of free time (late evenings) to do a crazy character to warm up for this piece. here he is

So here’s the lineart I’m more or less settled on, going to let the painting process reveal to me what other ideas the picture has for itself.

#22

Finished up some lineart last night, slept on it and decided I didn’t like how open it was. So here is a better laid out version of the final lineart, start painting this bad boy tonite.

#23

NOW we’re talkin. This is an awesome composition. Me likey.

Only thing: Now we can’t see that Herr Sausage-Loaf is chopped in half… can he be flipped?

#24

Started up general color layout, lighting, etc.

#25

That’s quite a change since the last time i was here. The design got a lot better. I like the composition on this one too and the gesture of the characters. Good start on the colours. Can’t wait to see more updates.

cheers

#26

Love the style and colours, one of the most unique pieces yet in the competition. And the story…well i’ll have some of what you are smoking mate
Very nice , can’t wait to see the finished piece, I hope it retains the almost dreamy & soft quality, Good Luck!!

#27

Really neat rendering and coloring style, very atmospheric… i like it! Not sure exactly what’s going on, but it’s cool. One note, if you don’t mid: The single eye on the right-most creature may not be matching the erspective on the cylinder itself… It also feel like it’s mounted on a plane, not a cylinder… But anyhow, good luck with it! Look forward to seeing how you refine everything…

hey thanks folks. i was just talking about the eye thing walrus when you busted me on it. it should be all fixed up next post. and yes demonicoz it will retain the dreamy quality, more so near it’s final iteration. glad you’re keeping tabs on it Arc80, I need someone to make sure I don’t get lazy:)
