Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Lacing the Corset
A first version, approx. 3 hrs. into the piece. I’d like to do something different with this one. I’m inspired by the drawings of Andrew Loomis, the paintings of Jack Vettriano, and the paintings of Edward Hopper. This is just a concept sketch, subject to change. How can I make the figures more dynamic, less awkward?

looks like a pretty good concept
i suppose the camera angle may be different in the final?
is the servant supposed to look mischevious? i’m abit confused by the facial expressions.

How hard is the servant pulling on the strings?
Is she supposed to be yanking it up tight? If she is, having her reeling back on her heels a bit and shifting her body wait would help a lot. Right now a lot of the weighting seems too settled and unclear. I’m not sure if the master is cringing or just patiently standing still while holding the bed rail.
How does the master feel about this? her expression looks rather ambivalent. Is she impatient, in pain, pleased?
the characters are fascinating and their social classes are quite clear. I’m just not clear on “how they feel about their situation and toward each other”.
Depends on what you are going for. If it’s a funny style, you could have the made pressing her foot (either left or right, doesn’t matter) against the girls back, and having the girls eye’s poping out. We need some humor in this challenge! Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Yeah, the sketch needs work. I think I need to exaggerate things more. In my idea, the servant resents the master. When she’s lacing up the corset, the servant has a rare opportunity to take some aggression out on her Master, so she does.
I’ll keep working at it…
