Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Yes Dear

It’s been a little longer than I’d have liked since my last update. So, here’s some eyecandy for your viewing pleasure. I’ve cleaned up the linework, tweaked some details, and for kicks I’ve thrown in some basic basic shading just to help me get a feel for how I want to light the scene. This lighting will most likely change quite a bit by the time I get to coloring. I should have the final-final linework done within the next couple of days and then onto the color. “Faster, Faster” shout the voices in my head.

As always, any comments, critiques, questions, and or pointers are welcome.

Something that was said at my friend’s wedding. “You know that ring is just a weight attached to an invisible chain.” Ok, so maybe not a direct quote, but that was the general jist. So I came up with this notion, a couple, quite happy with eachother, but who exactly is in control? Is it the husband, as tradition would suggest? Or is it the wife who’s influence is subtle but never the less undeniable? Anyway, I look forward to seeing this piece to its completion, where ever that may be.

  • your first concept is good but the theme is MASTER & SERVANT… and there I see the girl could be a servant … but the guy don’t look like a master at all… too kind…
    and if it is meant to be invert : the girl isn’t enought powerful … and the guy not enought subordinated…

anyway try to make bigger difference between them… in the sens you want

Nice work. Just pay attention to the man’s neck and the position of his head.
Your sketch reminds me of “The women of Stepford” by Ira Levin.

Nice idea!
It makes me clearly see that there’s a master/servant relationship going on, but you doubt a little who actually is here the master and who’s the servant. That’s good, though! :slight_smile:

I’ve gotten some more time to work on this, and I’ve made some changes.

His head had been bothering me for some tim but I think it’s possitioned correctly now, and actually doesn’t look half bad. I’m not entirely sure the hair is right for the image, or that his expression is exactly right. I want him to be capable of being the master yet I don’t want him to come off as smarmy or vilanous.

I’ve made some minor tweaks elsewhere: changed her hand position, new ring, broadened his shoulders a tad, reduced her butt, modified her expression every so slightly, and played around with their clothes.

I’m still experimenting, trying to find that balancing point of ambiguity where you’re not sure exactly who’s the master in the relationship, yet without having either of them be domineering, sleezy, or unkind.

As always, if you have any thoughts, comments, or suggestions, I welcome them.

looks very promising =)
may i suggest changing something about his right hand - right now it’s relaxed and might look a little out of place.
