Latest Update: Coloring WIP: more coloring… some texturing…

man… it’s been so hectic on the weekends (but in a good way). I guess I can only work on this at work when I skip lunch…

so if later on, someone askes me how long I took to complete the final version, I’ll tell them: “20 lunches!”

throwing the idea out there:
grotesque female creatures (slaves) who in order to have their appearance changed to normal, need to stay around the ‘circle of fire’ of their master/ magician.

It’s a give and take. They’re not exactly required to be his slaves, but their appearance would change back to its true grotesque form. I guess in a way they’re slaves of their own vanity.

I might change the settings here. Maybe make this present day, and have the magician be some sort of pimp with mystical powers instead. But the idea is pretty much it.

Same idea, just working out my composition.

I think I am going with the idea of a mystical pimp in the present day, instead of an ancient wizard.

I added a girl hanging on strings on the forewround too. I’m sure someone already came up with the idea of a puppeteer as master, but the girl hanging there helpless communicates the master-slave relationship better.

I like this last layout, but the youth power would be tough to convey. Not really important what it does, come to think of it. It’s just important to convey that he has it, the women want it, and show what they will do to get it. Then you’ve got your master/servant relationship.

BTW, the girl in the foreground seems wasted as a puppet on strings. If walking toward the “camera”, you can show her as a satisfied customer, a stoned out zombie or a disgusted individual who can’t be tempted. Maybe she’s tempting the viewer instead. . .

Hi, my friend!
All woman slaves look like they are equally treated by the master.
It would be interesting, just pick one or two woman and give them some special relationship with the master. Right now, even though front woman has big portion of painting, she looks small. I guess she doesn’t show any better relation with the master than others have.

rough concept idea for the ‘mystical pimp’. He won’t be sitting anymore. this way he takes up more room in the final piece. This is a character / relationship based contest, I’ll worry about the background later…

the last concept is great, but what if you have the foreground woman turn her neck but the back is slightly toward the audience, just a thought…I love the colour scheme and the expressions…

This is what I’ve done today. (aside from vaccoing my hole apartment…) I’m posting the coloring WIP right after that.

This is the extent of my ‘line art’ . I like to keep the drawing loose. Plus, most of my decison making happens while painting.

Usually it bytes on the foot though, as I end up having to print what I have on the computer and draw over and fix things by hand…

oops! had some techinical problems
yesterday…and I forgot to comment on what I added (on the line art submission): the girls raising off the floor.

I’m not sure yet, but I think I might add this girl either being punished or being raised from inside the pimp’s dark cape. Maybe te end of his cape moves / looks like water or oil… and that’s where he keeps his girls, in this this dimension inside his cape.

something like that…just going with the flow I guess…

I like this concept, the facial expression is very clear, yet you need more drama, beautiful colors and poses…

you’re right. I’m working on it… I did turn her back like you suggested… I’m hoping as I continue to work on it, I’ll finally warm to it and come out with something super dynamic / dramatic…
