Master and Servant 2D Entry: Brandon Gilbert

#14

Trying to add some clouds. I’ve never really done clouds before so let me know if they are convincing enough.

#15

Added stars in the sky.

You can probably notice there is a group of stars that seem to glow brighter than the rest. What I’m doing here is, when the main eagle in the foreground is visible, these stars will be centred between it’s outstretched wings. And, these stars make up the constellation “Aquila”, which was the name of the eagle that took Ganymede from earth to Zeus.

…the story slowly unravels.

#16

Okay, that’s cool and i like that add ons, especially the constilations. Put more, hehe.
checking back later.

cheers

#17

Just giving a sense of how the pieces of the composition are coming together.

Keep the comments commin.

#18

The sky is looking fantastic. I know you’re not done with the background so i’ll wait to you put more details on it. HEY, where are the birds, heehee.

cheers :buttrock:

#19

I knew i was forgetting something

#20

Ohhh, so dynamic, lovely perspective! The colors (ahhh the sky!) are stunning!

#21

Lovely artwork… nice colours and great epic feel to the composition! Keep going… you’ve obviously got some serious talent! :applause:

Oh, and you’re studying at Sheridan? We have a few Sheridan graduates here at our animation studio (in Halifax, NS). Talented artists, to be sure! Good luck and I’ll check back for updates.

Cheers!

#22

As much as I love the main eagle in the foreground, its pose just doesn’t seem right. So heres the contour of the new pose.
Although it’s a new pose I will keep the old facial expression as the original eagle.

#23

Ah is see what you mean about the eagle. Yeah, gesture of this is a lot better, but definately keep the expression of the other one. Keep it coming dude  be checking back again.

BTW, i checked your website, very nicely designed (how the hell did you program that page scrolling effect). I like the works you have their. Some really cool detailings. Now i’m really thrill to see you finish this piece :argh:

cheers

#24

Thanks for the site compliments, that thing has been a work in progress for years. I always get distracted by other things. Like this challenge for one.

But what page scrolling effect are you referring to?

#25

You know, when you scroll with the window scroll bar, you see the back of your page.
Oh, nevermind. I see what you did. You have a couple of layers right?.. i think

Anyway, don’t worry about it. I was just curious on how you did it.

cheers

#26

oh wow… what gorgeous colours! Having read the background for this piece, I have to say I love the way you’ve based it in mythology here and there, and the constellation idea is a really beautiful touch that anyone in the know whould recognise. One minor thing… are you going to be able to see the humans? Because the rules do state that at least one of the characters must be human… but maybe that counts if you just do them really small in the chariot. I kinda like the fact you won’t be able to see the masters so close up.

And the new eagle pose is certainly 100% better than the last… and I’d keep that agressive facial expression on it too if you can. Lovely work this far… can’t wait to see the details emerging.

#27

Thanks for the friendly reminder, but yes I will show the humans in the chariots. The reason I have not even attempted them yet is because they are the least of my worries in terms of rendering. They will probably be one of the last things I do.

By the way, you got some serious sketches over there in your challenge page. Nice work!

#28

Been pretty busy lately, but I get my new BOXX laptop tomorrow and will be anxious to use it. So hopefully things will move quickly.

Here just working on the main eagle.

#29

It’s about time I start puting some detail into this thing.

Started off with the head of the eagle since it’s pretty much the main focal point.

#30

Hi Pixelcritter,

Great progress! Thank you for giving us frequent looks at your work. It’s nice to see intermediate stages. Keep up the great work. I’m looking forward to seeing everything come together.

Regards,

#31

I see you started up on detailing. Very cool. I’ll wait for more.

cheers

#32

Its coming along to be a beautiful piece of work, very graceful, beautiful pallete, lovely mood. Can’t wait to see it finished. Great sense of movement mate.

#33

Here you can see the pieces of the Eagle separate. Next I need to do the other wing and the body’s first pass so I can get the lighting straight, then I’ll go back in and get all the fur in place.
