Latest Update: Coloring WIP: More Eagle

Slightly altered the wings. I don’t wanna get too caught up in minor details at this stage.

#2

So far I had two basic ideas. Essentially I’m basing my piece on humans who have ben able to tame these gigantic wild eagles.

The one on the left has a guy with this massive eagle perched on his arm overlooking some sort of landscape.

The one on the right shows these eagles in a harness pulling behind them some sort of coach for the humans to be in. Like horses pulling a carriage, only with large eagles in the sky.

#3

I was leaning towards the second idea in my thumbnails, so I’m playing around with the composition here.

To quickly explain what you’re seeing, essentially a convoy of these eagle chariots (name is in progress too)

#4

Figuring out the background.

#5

Figuring out the colour scheme and mood I want for this piece.

#6

Before I get ahead of myself with colouring away, gotta finish the bases of the composition.

Here’s concept #1 for the Chariot. Regardless of what it will look like, I’m going to call it “Ganymede’s Chariot”.

The reasoning behind that is in Greek mythology there was a mortal, Ganymede, who was kidnapped by Zues by eagles. That’s the short version. I’ll work on enriching the story later.

(Can’t wait to get some feedback…anyone?)

#7

Looking nice. I’m glad you’re leaning toward the eagle pulled chariots as I think it’s more dynamic and engaging. The eagle racing over the water at dawn is a really nice and powerful image. I look forward to seeing how this turns out. Good luck, and welcome to the challenge!

#8

I decided to go with the last colour scheme, just seemed to fit best with what I’m going for.

Here just getting a sense of how the eagles will look.

#9

Hey, that’s cool. This is looking promising. I dig the composition and the expression of the bird. Keep it coming dude. I would like to see the progress and finish stage of this.

cheers

#10

The bird’s face work is really neat. It’s very good. I think your choice of color scheme is really the best one! They’re fluid hues. The mood is enticing.

#11

This is a brilliant composition and nice morning-like colors!

keep posting!

cheers: Kornél

#12

wow. i can see something very special coming out of it.

#13

Thanks guys for the encouraging feedback. This piece should move along real quick, I just got out of school so I’ll have lots of spare time to spend on this thing.

Just working on tightening up the background.

This is the first stage of the sky.

#14

Trying to add some clouds. I’ve never really done clouds before so let me know if they are convincing enough.

#15

Added stars in the sky.

You can probably notice there is a group of stars that seem to glow brighter than the rest. What I’m doing here is, when the main eagle in the foreground is visible, these stars will be centred between it’s outstretched wings. And, these stars make up the constellation “Aquila”, which was the name of the eagle that took Ganymede from earth to Zeus.

…the story slowly unravels.

#16

Okay, that’s cool and i like that add ons, especially the constilations. Put more, hehe.
checking back later.

cheers

#17

Just giving a sense of how the pieces of the composition are coming together.

Keep the comments commin.

#18

The sky is looking fantastic. I know you’re not done with the background so i’ll wait to you put more details on it. HEY, where are the birds, heehee.

cheers :buttrock:

#19

I knew i was forgetting something
