Latest Update: Concept Sketch: character designs and more revised comosition sketch

let’s see, i’ve been slacking on this. Didn’t pick it back up until this weekend. Did a little maya stage setting which i’ll keep to myself for now. and at the advice of a friend changed the character to a girl to mimic the original king kong story. after a few ideas for her which still turned out looking the same i went crazy with some charcoal and chalk and this is waht happened. I dig it for now.

as far as composition goes i’m not fully happy with it but i see no other solution as of yet.

Still have to designt he mecha kong. got a bunch of reference of apes and gorillas an i’m still trying to digest it all.

I know there’s not a lot of time left. but i think i’ll be able to rock it before the clozing bell.

I did this quicky illustration idea a few days before i found out about the challenge. I guess it’s kinda effecting my train of thought as i develop my concept. This is a really rough Mecha King Kong:

gonna try to put a few hours in today developing my concept and gathering reference.

Sorry for tripple posting one image, the system here is a little janky. Didnt think it worke dthe first time.

So i havent had a lot of time to work on this yet but here is what i have.

The concept is still in the works. The idea is a question, “who is in control?” The image is going to be of a king kong style monster rampaging in a metropolis. The monster is a mecha with a human operator. There has been a malfunction though and the human opperator is trapped inside. He does not want the mecha to rampage, but he lost control of the Mecha. His attempts to get out are misrepreseted by the Mecha and are translated into a pounding action that is wreaking havoc on the city. The way i figured this would work is if an army of soldiers is trying to stop the Mecha and have disabled his legs and right arm. bur the left arm is still out of control and pounding the crap out of averything in sight. This is the basic plot of the illustration.

Thhe challlenge is to convey all this without confusing the hell out of the viewer with a complicated composition.

So far, Image #2 is the best sollution i’ve found. There is a close up of the mecha’s face with the human pilot’s erratic behavior. This is the main point of the illustration. Then in the negative space i will have a reflection of the mecha wrecking havoc reflected in a building opposite from the Mecha.

My next step is i’m gonna model a city street and an simplified Mecha in MAYA and play around with the coposition and camera angles. then use that as a reference for the final sketch.

I’m also gonna push myself to try to come up with a better soluttion for this illustration. If anyone has any suggestions, please help me out. and don’t be afraid to critique the heall out of this.

Even with the line work, this image is difficult to make out. But my goodness, I love that blue!! It’s like a cerulean blue!!
