Master and Servant 2D Entry: Andrew Johnston

Doesn’t there have to be a human int eh scene?

#14

Crapola, it seems so, well back to the drawing board, thanx.

#15

OK, there is a human in the scene. Sooooo, this time around, the man has a personal slave in the form of his shadow. That’s it. I think it’s self explanatory.

#16

Started with the wip, basically cleaning up the image and painting over the line sketch using greyscale.

#17

Very but very cool concept ou got there, can’t wait to see it in color

great work and good luck with your challenge

#18

Worked a bit during lunch. Still cleaning up and retouching areas of concern, like the foot. Added more hair to the shadow slave to make her more feminine. Still keeping it quite loose and having lots of fun

#19

ohh this is looking really good! I like the way youre making the eye wander of the picture.

Its a small story in there isnt it?

good job!

#20

Why thank you E.T, I’m glad you like it so far. Yeeeeess, there is a story…in there…some…where…um. Seriously, its great to be able to make up your own story when looking at a picture, so I’m not telling what my story behind this pic is, I’ll leave that to you, make your owns story, yipeee!

#21

Like this idea - glad you went back to the more light-hearted concept works better.

Luck to you

#22

Great idea :thumbsup: and great sketch also :thumbsup:

#23

Not much I can do in 20 minutes, but there is some progress in cleaning up all round and playing with contrast, whish I had more time to work on this.

#24

Going all over the image still doing some cleanup and also started tightening some areas. Put some more effort into the bed, specifically the duvet, also added more contrast to the overall image. Have some way to go still.

#25

I love your concept, very interesting.

Cool idea and the drawing is relly starting to look good. I can’t wait to see this in color!

#27

Awesome realism. The only thing I would suggest is make what she is holding in her hand more clear of what it is. I really was trying to figure it out, because I think most people have lamps with the turning switch just under the bulb on the lamp. I thought about it for awhile then . . . OH! Really no real criticism. Your piece is splendid.

#28

:bounce: Love the Shadow Idea, it’s like a snapshot from a story. the real question is is it his own shadow that has been charmed to serve him? or is it his desire to be served that has linked the shadow of some female to serve him…

Like it, it makes you think

Hey all, first of, thank you for the replies. Snowkiwi, about the lamp switch… just like you I have trouble understanding the lamp switches you’ve got where you live, most I know use buttons that are connected to the lamp via a electric cord, to say that you’ve gotten me REAL INTERESTED in the lamp switches that you are use to, is an understatement. Anyway I’ve added the cord going into the lamp, hopefully this helps.

Soooo I’ve finally got some time to work on my entry, Most of the cleaning up is done. Worked allot on the bed and cover, also spent a a fair amount of time on the had to the left and on the foot, I am much happier with the foot now, but still I am unsure whether it looks right or not, it’s hard to remain subjective when you work on something for a fixed period. So let me know if the foot is freaking you out. The headboard especially the part closest o the lamp is also bugging me, so I’ll probably get back to that as well. At the moment the coloring process is underway, after that I’ll add more highlights and detail or even some texture, perhaps to the wall, maybe some cracks, I donno, have too see.

Love the lighting in your scene, but the best is your concept idea it just rocks

first time i saw this i tought she was … ehhm “sleep”

#32

splendid…i agree w/ snowkwi about the lamp… maybe make the shadow pull out something from under the shade to make it clear she/he is pulling the switch, jst a thought… or just ignore this…overall,
