Master and Servant 2D Entry: Andrew Dobell

OK, this I did today. I have redone the image on a new sheet of paper and basically tightened it up.
You can see that the girl is wearing some kind of PVC Fetish Outfit, just for kicks obviously, and we can see the Tenticles of the “Master” reaching for her. I plan to have some kind of eerie glow from the Circle, the backgroud will be largely dark but with shadowy creatures creeping towards the girl.

Suggestions and ideas are welcome, but im pretty focused on this one as the final idea now so no more major changes now.

What do people think?

Hi Andy, I think I prefer the last one… The creature with the red eyes… You could do something cool with that. The large figure behind could be almost disappearing into the dark, with a suggestion of its bulk in the shadows. The girl could be much more visible, with some carefully place dramatic lighting. And do what Enayla suggested with the mimicing. She could be reaching out at us with a grasping hand or gesturing in some way, and the behemoth behind could be copying the gesture, very much her servant… In her outstretched hand could be a ball of light like you’ve done, or a jewel, that is mirrored in the colour and style of the creatures eyes… this is the controling power… The arms reaching out could then be hightlighted by the stronger light, as they reach into it! I dunno… might work… :slight_smile:

Hiya.
Thanks for the imput Aly. Its much appreciated. But im going to be stubborn with this one and stick with this idea.
For two main reasons.

  1. I like it. Its the concept im happiest with and i’ll enjoy doing it. Which is important. And as you said to me Aly, do something you enjoy!
  2. I need to get going with it. I dont want to be going back to the drawing board again. I need to get to work on something otherwise it’ll never get done.

I hope you will continue offering your advice and ideas!

So heres the image with the base colours laid down. I have some ideas about where this will head, but we have lots of time yet.

Any thoughts anyone?

Excellent! This one was cool too, I just liked the last! What I reckon with this one though… is how about giving us more at the top. The creature (master/servant) is only suggested with the tentacles, so perhaps we could see more of the slimy beastie hanging over her by opening up the composition to make this more apparent. :shrug:

Yeah, I will be pushing the girl lower and have more tenticled beasty in it. Also, Im thinking of adding a big nasty looking eye in the hole in the floor where the other tenticles are comming from.

Hi Andrew… well after a fraught day your concept stories have cheered me up no end! Very amusingly written and very creative. As I am sure you are aware, part of the challenge “rules” are to show the emotional link between the Master and Servant so your beast will have to exude gleefulness/cunning/satiation etc. at having bought another soul. I like your last upload though and think it will work well. Glad there are so many UK residents taking part in this challenge. Im working on this image at work mainly in my dinner hour so I will be posting an update every few days most likely.

Yeah, it is one worry that your only seeing part of the master in this image, but I have a few ideas about that. Certainly your going to be able to see the emotion in the Girls face as she offers herself, body and soul, to this Elder God from the Outer Darkness! (Man, I read too much fantasy stuff!)
Anyway, yes, I shall be taking your comments into consideration as this image progresses as I need to get that emotion into the image somehow.

Heres an update on my image. A few details added here and there. Slowly moving forward.
Made the image taller to fit more of the Tenticles in as well.

ur skin shading is too dead, the colours are too dirty , try using clearer aray of saturated colours, with low opacity and changing modes between soft light and overlay, that shgould do the trick, cant wait to see how u handle organic texturing. Later:thumbsup:

Thankyou nebezial, I shall see what I can do. I was thinking kinda similar things, im using a lot of black and I need to get away from it.
I have also tried to correct some of the proportions as they are off! Will update in a day or two.

Cool concept but the proportions need to be adjusted. She looks very week below the arms. at first i thought she had palsey. I did not get this impression so much from the sketch, maybe more definition or exagerated perspective would remedy it. keep it up

Heres what I have been doing so far. Mainly working on the Girl, She has been reworked a fair bit and it getting there. Not sure about the eyes, at the moment they are rolled back in their sockets, but Im wondering if it would be better to have them staring up at the Master.
Thoughts?

Oo, nice skin tones - huge improvement from the dirty earlier colours. I really like the perspective at this point, neat looking down like that. How about adding some glow to the heart of the, er, tentacle-thingie - might be a nifty way of bringing in some more vibrant colours. (Like, a yellow-green reflecting from below, on her skin and her clothes).

Anyway - I love it so far :smiley: waiting for the next update!

Ooooh, Like the glow idea, I was wondering what to do with the hole!

Well, after seeing the array of spectacular artwork on show, I knew I had to do something with those skin tones.

A bit strange…

The girl seems to be the master in her expression…
but the creature vegetal seems to have the power agaisnt the woman… see the floor it is growing on her… strange relation…

Neozoom - The girl is deffinetly the servant. She’s offering her self to the Creature for her own twisted reasons. Her expression is mean to be one of “Take me, im yours!” as she waits in anticipation for whatever is to come.

That all said, im not 100% happy with her face yet, the eyes are giving me a headache.
I will bare your comments in mind though and have a think on it.
