Latest Update: Line Art: a little bit more

I’ve added a little bit more since the last post. The pillars on stage are going to be record stands, holding all the discs that the dj will be spinning. the plan is to have little aliens climbing on these things like monkeys and grabbing the next tune. I deciced to set it up concert style instead of club, complete with adoring fans at the bottom of the screen.
The pillars were created in Bryce 5 and duplicated in photoshop. Still working on lighting.

This submission is basically about me. I\'m a slave to music. It\'s on in the car, it\'s on at home, it\'s on at work, I\'m always listening to music. So the basic concept is to have anthropomorphic musical implements, in this case the speakers and turntables, serving someone. The DJ has some aspects of me, ie. my hair, my style, but this time the music is serving her. I haven\'t decided yet whether or not this is a happy relationship.

Good Luck with the challenge

I’m getting a little closer as far as refining the layout for this project. There’s still a little tweaking to do, especially with the turntable guy(s), but I’ll figure that one out in due time. I haven’t decided yet whether to put faces on the big guys or not. or where all the cords should go. For now I think the image is a little crowded, so I’ll have to work on spacing. Other than that, I think I’m getting there.

Nice to see you are really pushing the theme. My only comment/question is whether the creatures are alive concious beings? They look a little in-animate at the moment, mainly the two guys on either side.

#6

So the basic idea is to have this little three-headed alien guy holding up the turntables and occasionally handing up the LPs. Not sure where that plan came from, but I kind of like it. This little guy is literally the servant of the music.

#7

So, yeah. The one I finally decided on was the little sumo looking guy in the corner. I feel that it fits more with the crazy three-headed alien. The other sketches look too serious and realistic…yet not. Too hard to explain. Anyway the sumo speakerman fits more into the goofy, cartoony alien feel that I’m looking for.
More later.

Interesting concept. Just watch out on some of your proportions. The hands (on most of your drawings) are kinda small and the composition is a little too simple. I know it’s just a concept sketch, but i’m just looking out.

GoodLuck,
Archie

I still haven’t figured out a way to put in the speaker guy, but I’m working on it. I kind of like the little alien guy and am working on developing him a bit more. that and I need a more dynamic pose for the dj. I’ll figure it out eventually

As for me, It will be better if U change perspective a little, becase from the first view I didnt undertend her Djs table, there cant see any Djs devises on it and the table looks flat, but anyway that`s just advice) Have Fun and GooDlucK!)

#11

I like your concept. It’s certainly one of the more original ones I’ve seen so far.

#12

Alright, I’ve brought back the concept of the speakerman. I didn’t really finish drawing in everything, but the basic idea is to have the little alien guys reaching off the shelves and handing out discs.

#13

I’ve decided to work with the image with the speakerman. I haven’t put in the little alien guys. I’ll wait on that until I have the shelves down.

It’s been a while, but I had some serious thinking to do as to what exactly these characters would look like. I still have a ways to go, but at least I’ve mostly figured out the speaker guy, who was causing me the most problems. I decided to go totally hip hop as far as this character, outfitting him with a track suit. I would have had his arms folded across his chest, but then we wouldn’t be able to see the speakers.

#15

I decided to work in greyscale for a bit. It gives me a chance to work on the actual character design, as opposed to just the concept. I decided to go completely hip hop with the speaker guy, complete with gold chain. I haven’t braved the background yet, they have always been my weak points, but I’m working on it. Critiques welcome. thanks

I’m finally getting the faces and bodies down. I took a few sample photos of myself in the poses I wanted to use for the DJ. I’ll probably end up using my own face too, since I already started off that way. I haven’t gotten around to putting in eyes for the speakerman. I’m still debating whether or not he’s wearing shades. So far I feel that the facial expressions of both characters could be a little more dynamic. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m open.
