Mash and density

Does anyone use mash to scatter vegetation? I currently control my density with the visibility node. This kind of sucks because the visibility node doesnt create more spare areas with grey values like xgen would. Instead the visibility node seems to either turn trees on ir off depending if the map pixel is over 50% grey. How do i get a nice falloff and sparseness? Also i find controlling density with visibility is quite slow as mash is still computing points below the visibility node in the stack
