mapping anim curves to RGB vray

#1

Howdy all,

I’m actually an animator by trade, but I’ve been digging into lighting/look dev a bit. I was futzing with custom fresnel’s using ramps and my animator mind screamed out ( WHY CAN’T I JUST USE CURVES INSTEAD OF THESE DAMNED RAMPS! ) I dug into a deep google search and came up with a couple good bits of info.

This guy did EXACTLY what I was looking for http://bct.me/tutorials/mini-cooper/

This does work in maya software, but when I switch to vray, the samplerInfo data seems to be completely disregarded.

Anyone ever come across this?

Mmm that is a very fine specific level of control you are manipulating. Have you considered just modifying the refractive index of your material to Create the falloff response you desire. Simpler and to some degree more plausible.

That said I’d consider a script for plotting of your curve values into your a ramp - if I ever needed that level of fresnel control
