making particle/VFX light interact with scene?

#1

OK guys , i dont know if this is knd of newbish or not, but im curious, say im mkaing a muzzle flash, or a laser, or a fireball, how do i make the “light” that emits from it interact with a scene?

Anyone can just place an emitter at the end of a prop gun, but a real gun when fired, will ight up parts of a scene. How can i re-create that?

I was just using selection, then adding brightness/color shifting to try to compensate for it.

thanks in advance.

what u can do is,
u can paint ur perticular areas where u wanna show light of the color of ur light beam…
then give it a blending mode… play around with soft light, hard light, color dodge, hue etc…

#3

what more u can do is ,

take ur particle layer, blurr it , increase its brightness, use its luma matt on a color layer (color of ur light) . then use it with a blending mode on ur composit…

got it??

hope it helpp.

hey im new in cg talk

but im not able to see my post replies helppp…

You know what, actually that does make sense. I just wanted to know if thats how things were really done.

The one thing that always made me laugh was how in star wars, theyre holding lightsabers, supposedly BEAMS OF LIGHT, that dont cast ANY light. That always made me laugh.

cant help it dude!!

they cant work on these small details on such a big project

but make sure if u make ur own starwars , do use this method… it works

actully i used this trick on higglytown heros(disney’s playhouse) hellowene episode where we had to animate lighte . but u know what, shake rocks.

Is shake in fact better for this kind of work?

Im actually quite a newb to shake. But im willing to learn. Im not onea those star wars dorks, my bro just likes to show off the fact we can use lightsabers in something so stupid for one of his school videos.

Im a perfectionist, and everytime ive ever used a light emitting orb, or flame, flare, whatever, ive always wanted to go in and make it interact with the scene. At one point, we wer going to make a basic geometric model of the scene in C4D and jsut throw light on things.
