Making Letters Sparkle(shimmer) & Jagged Mini

#1

Im glad to be back after a while. I now have a job that needs my animation abilities to create logos for the company. Well this is a two parter.

I used the font wizard to create text(of course) but now the guys here would like it to shimmer/sparkle. You know, when the title if something comes up and fwinnng sparkles or shimmer from one side to the next. Well I tried using a chrome mat. and reflecting light off from one side to the next, but as I found out, the chrome reflects total black (or the BG color of the camera) before the light hits it. Very ununiformed. I gather I could make a lense flare affect that goes from one side to the next…not too good with those, but it is more simple that way…yet I wish I knew how to have a flare rotate as it moves, that would be better.

Part two is a bit easier.

At Mini render the smooth oval logo is jagged and well…not smooth. At a larger render size the smoothness returns. Is there any way to keep the smooth attribs on a smaller rendering of the logo?

Try a custom toon gradient shader - make something like black/white/black which should reflect the light the way you want it

The problem you describe sounds like an aliasing issue, make sure you have antialiasing ticked on, or the “alias edges” option ticked off to avoid jaggies. In any case you can always resize in post to get the size you want with the optimal look

Nada zero zip. Ive tried with aliasing on and off, with toon lines, shading and different colors. Odd as it is, when I do a quick render (Q) and make the logo in the distance, the lines are not jagged at all… Ok I think I found an answer. My Camera was right on top of the image (less than an inch from it) and moving the camera back, then making a larger render fixed it. It’s smooth now.

So…now how can I make the sparkles?
