Making cloth folds in Mudbox

#1

HI,

I’m a new user to mudbox and sculpting application in general.

For my first project, I want to create a black jogging suit made from nylon.

I’d like to know what the recommended way of tackling cloth folds are. I’ve tried using the foam brush to create a fold, pinch/pull it, flatten it and then smooth them over but they’re hit or miss.

From examining the folds on my own clothing, I see that the lumps are interconnected with each other and folded back on themselves to hide one side. I’m especially having trouble mimicking this.

Is there a routine set of steps or procedures you use to create your own cloth folds? If so, which brushes in Mudbox work best for you?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

in mudbox there isnt always the right tool, more like the tool that is best for you and your workflow.
for cloth folds, i belive you should try using to combination of basic sculp tool with a sharp falloff, togather with grab, and pinch.
if you want to interconnect, use sculp and smooth alot until you reach a result you are satisfied with,
if you are using a tablet tweak with the pressure settings as well.
if you are new to mudbox, just toy around with all the tools available, see how they behave.
