I want news and more images…
I want full resolution screen captures just to, I don’t know, stare at menus and new palettes for hours
Simple texture maps fail at some point in making fine surface scratches because they need to have massive resolution in order to have well defined, but very narrow scratch lines.
The shader was originally my idea, but all of the thanks must go to the Igors for developing this for the EIAS community.
Scratch lines can be run through the bump channel OR exclusively through the specular channel. There is also a reactive mode for controlling where scratches occur.
I am working on a few presents that show some of the shader’s capabilities.
Attached is one of the presets.
Sorry for being out of touch recently, I have lots of things going on at the moment.

So what about 7.0?
featured list?
examples?
What about Encage from Konkeptoine… I can’t work without it…
6.5 forgoten user…
The preliminary feature list is pretty solid. Any last minute additions wont be dramatic. Examples can be seen on the website. Encage is being ported to UB and will eventually be sold on the EI website. Most of Konk’s upgrades to UB will likely be free.
That’s a good new! Encage to UB soon??,
I actually solve all my architectural work with Cinema/Vray Bridge ( Hiperrealistic GI), but for music clip animations I really prefer EIAS, because the nice and fast render, but without Encage it is very uncomfortable to work.
And now SONICA maybe in six month more… ,
Thank you
cheers
Diego
Is there an ETA for the full feature list ?
Also, i’d really like to see more examples of the new HDRI features, the images on the site are pretty good- but not so good as to make me sit up and take note, or in other words they just don’t have that “wow” factor, nice but i know from experience there will be a ton of stuff from the beta, where is it ? nothing from “car master” Jens ???
And i also think Paul.S should have been on the beta program this time, i’m sure he would have provided superb examples of the new features, no disrespect intended to those who did provide samples, i just feel Paul could have got the best out of it.
Ok rant over.

Yeah, it’s strange that it was called “primary” feature list because I’m pretty sure right now that it magically turned into the final feature list…
When you call a list “primary”, in my book, you intend to expand it to a full feature one later…
I updated my seats anyway for the primary list was interesting enough to do so. I just felt, by reading the different threads in the last months, that something more was supposed to be there but isn’t going to be for whatever reason.
I needed UB, in my line of work I don’t care to much for HDRI but dynamics is the thing I had the most fun with in many years. Overall, I’m a happy camper…!
We are lucky EITG wasn’t developing any EIPhone too :D: just look how few extra secret weapons appeared in the final release of Apple’s OS X 10.5.
Are the v7 DVDs being mailed? The waiting is unbearable
I agree that there should be many, many more examples of killer images showing off the new features. It makes me think there is something wrong with how they are implemented if all of the beta guys haven’t provided lots of ‘promo materials’…that’s probably not the case but that’s the impression left.
Thanks for the acknowledgement but I think my time has past where I can be an objective beta tester…I don’t know. I never asked and no-one asked me. Maybe for EIM.
I’m really surprised you weren’t testing the HDRI implementation as you have spent a lot of time working with that sort of thing…and have created some really cool imagery with it. I was expecting something from you and still am surprised that you weren’t heavily recruited to test out how things were to be implemented.
I get the feeling that if too much opinion in how things are being implemented is voiced, one isn’t invited to the party:-) And that’s too bad as it’s those extra features and special implementations which made EI unique in the past.
Here’s one more opinion …in order to sell software pre-release, absolutely jaw-dropping images/animations are needed which are created using the new tools…there should be some excitement generated by the new toolset…enough for testesrs to provide many images. Even hire someone to do this. I can’t believe this gets missed at EI. Besides the lack of HDRI images I haven’t seen one animation using the new dynamics…has no-one created anything with them? Maybe I haven’t clicked in the right place on the page??
Yeah, it´s odd for saying the least. And the web site has no changes except for 1 page, Camera has been no updated yet…

Well i was asked to do the 6.6 beta but it was pointless since i don’t use a mac, so i declined, not heard anything since, i try not to think about the reasoning behind EI’s decisions to much, besides i’ve not had much time for 3D lately, but yeah i did spend a lot of time with HDRI before the “real” thing came along.
I don’t know what the deal is, although i have heard there were very few beta testers this time, i won’t be pre-ordering and would rather wait for a demo, see exactly what i’m paying for.

Hi all,
To my knowledge the features list on EIs site has had just a couple of small changes. The final list should add the Scratches shader - a new, and very cool - metal shader. And a couple of extra bug fixes. A new shader called Makewhite is also around, to make Occlusion passes easier to render, I think that might become a separate download though. Not sure, I’ll ask. Luis made it, it’s a real time saver.
No need to worry about that features, in my testing I’ve discovered no need for any workarounds, every feature is solid and predictable - no ‘hacks’ here - these features are the real deal.
I’ll try to sort out a multi-layer render PSD for you this morning so you can see how they work. As ever I’m exceptionally busy - if you have a model you’d like to see with HDRI, put it online and I’ll throw a map at it and show you how cool the reflections can be
Best,
Ian
PS. MForge is in beta testing, should be released very soon.
Thanks…I think my resistance to upgrade and wait and see - is diminishing. I use EI all the time so it probably would be wise to keep current.
Anymore images showing off the Scratchie Shader?
Also, anymore info on the GI Glossy reflections - examples, etc.
I’ve got a couple of projects set up and ready to render, but our render farm is chock-o-block a the moment, It will be clear in a few hours and then I’ll get some more tests out.
Hang in there!
Ian

A PSD render from EI7. Using the lights layer you can effectively change the colour of all scene lights (in this case the sun) in post production.
Transparency flag in EI is TURNED OFF. That’s the only note.
