Magical Theatre

And here’s another matte/digital painting that I did recently.
A fantasy type of environment, with a lot of symbols and small details portraying the magical world breaking into the real one.

The final was almost 6000 pixels wide, so here are some close-ups:

I hope you enjoy it. Comments appreciated.

Wow, just go to show how matte painting is a transferable skill to other forms of media. I like the concept and it is rich with detail, spent a bit of time just studying this. Have you put it on CG Gallery because I suggest it might reach a wider audience there.

Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed looking at this,

Rich

Thanks Rockhopper, glad you liked it. I did post it in the gallery as well and some people seemed to enjoy it, but matte painters’ comments are probably more important to me.

This is a great idea and I love the high resolution details. If you post a higher resolution version be sure to let me know. I’ve always enjoyed exploring images.

I think the foreground mid-ground of the stage and background create three defined areas which makes the water pouring from the background to the stage a great detail. I also like the left side of the background pushing into the stage and the mountain behind it. It creates a nice implied space behind the building that stretches into the valley which you can see just past centre stage. Add all this depth and the walls to the left and right of the stage just adds to the depth of all the different objects.

My personal taste would leave the rug off as it breaks up the flowing arc of the stage and I think the woman would still stand out on her own, but that’s just my taste. The detail you have and the way it lays over the steps is very well done.

I just noticed the tree on the left that crosses from the stage area out past the opening. I’ll be exploring this one for a bit. Great work.
