Machineflesh 3D Challenge Entry: Tyson Ibele
With the rat population out of control, cats must be suited with advanced prosthetics to hunt down the critters more efficiently.
hehe I like the idea of enhanced pets (perhaps more details on the eyes).Best luck mate! Tracking this one!
Great idea, I think this is my favorite concept.
Have you noticed how the cat’s pupil looks when they’re about to attack? I think it’s the killer eye, hehe.
Cheers.
nice idea-deadly kitty.
Looks like a really good integration scheme in the spine area, looks like it would work.
Thanks for the feedback!
Right now this is a real quick sketch…I’m going to start working on more in-depth designs quite soon…and if I can get my scanner working the images won’t be crappy photoshop outlines either
Possibly might go through a couple more concepts, but I think the killer cat is a good one to stick with.
Kickass concept Ivan. Good to see you here. I love the rib cage and the glare of the cat…I think your final image should look kind of like that pic…![]()
Awesome ! Very cool… wow cool again…
But it might get too detailed when modeling ?
Anyway good luck…
Hey snorthul and arlutik! Nice to see some others reppin for the3dstudio.com
I’m not too worried about the detail seeing as how I don’t plan to animate it and it will only require a basic rig to get it in the position I need it in for my composition (which will be different than the one in the first pic shown)
Here’s a little more detail on the leg…I’m going to try and give the prosthetics t a scabby, hack-job look…to make the overall cat look a little creepier.
At this point, if I stay on schedule, I hope to have the modelling finished in mid-May…
I have looked your peice and I like your latest sketch, suggest a lot of mingling of flesh and machine, but
I have to wonder cats as it stands now, really already have the advantage in catching and devour rats/mouse.
It sounds to me, for the need of cybernetic cats there must have been something that has changed in this relationship between cats/rats besides numbers.
By the look of what you have proposed it looks more like cats are being given an even larger advantage, is there another type of larger prey/preditor?

Nice concepts and nice idea!! Really bloody!!

Looking forward to see how you are gonna model it!!

Good idea, Continuumx
Let’s get the story a little more developed…so here goes…
In the near future, nuclear power is our main source of electricity. Soon enough, power plants start popping up everywhere, and thankfully have helped unemployment rates reach an all-time low.
But, as many predicted, accidents begin to spring up as well. Usually, they’re pretty standard procedure–send in a simple clean-up squad, give the area about 10 years before building new houses, and you’re good to go.
But sadly, with one plant, it was no so.
After the “incident” as the government deemed it (which apparantly wiped out all life within a 5 km radius of the building) a regular clean up team was sent in, but contact was lost with them almost immediately, and they were never seen again.
It turns out, that before the meltdown, the plant was conducting experiments that (some were hoping) would lead to a discovery in prolonged human immunity to radiation. The test subjects were a group of rats, who over a period of several months, were exposed to increased levels of radiation, which was allowing their bodies to suffer less from the side effects from the exposure. Mortality in the subjects was almost nil. The only problem with the medical breakthrough was that it was still in its infant stages, and one of the side effects that the rats experienced was an increase in size, as well as ferosity.
So, it turns out that the accident at the plant killed very few of the test rats, and in fact, besides giving them enormous tumours and deformities, strengthened them.
Who you gonna call? I think you can guess!
The government quickly jumped on the situation by “creating” the ultimate mutant-rat killing machines----…cats! with advanced prosthetics. Once they sent the cats in, the rats finally had a true predator…and this is where my image comes in…
After going through much deliberation over what kind of a composition my pic will have, I’ve though of this.
The setting will be in a dark place, probably with dripping water, blood stains on the floor, moonlight shining through a crack in the wall/window, steaming pipes etc etc…where you can see my character (the cat), about to attack a pair of mutated, deformed rats (covered in tumours, strange facial arrangements, scattered hair etc etc). In the darkest places around the scene you will also be able to see many more groups of beady eyes…obviously more rats. Overall, I’m going for an all-out creepy look.
So, that’s pretty much it. What do you think?
Okay, you have my interest in this story. Now it is just a matter of getting all of that into the image. I can see the need to have cybernetic cats!

Ok…in order to make a very long story short…I won’t explain why I’m changing my idea…but I’ll just say I am ;).
Basically, my new idea is this:
Near Future. Nanotechnology is used in medicine etc, with the help of “nanobots” (microscopic machines that can perform tasks a human or regular antibiotics can not). The only problem is that with these robots’ rapid reproduction there comes mutation.
As more and more of the “bots” are “born” mutated from the original design, malfunctions and other problems occur…one of them being the introduction of hybrid nanobot-parasites.
These parasites are part machine and part “flesh” as one might say…a mixture of common pest and medical breakthrough.
The one I will be creating my image based on is a “mecca-louse”. Basically, it’s a head-lice/bot combo…only it’s much more destructive than your common tick.
In the image, there will be several of these super-lice in the background, and one in the foreground, which is feeding off some flesh and attached to some hairs as well (which it can also remove nutrients from for energy).
Anywho, the final render will have a nice micro-feel to it. High DOF, etc etc.
Here’s the original concept:
And here’s the modelling progress so far:
