Machineflesh 3D Challenge Entry: Torsten Thuenen

#21

Everyone has confirmed that your concept is solid. But maybe you should think about pouring some detail into your “arse” and his mechanical arms. It seems as though the mechanical arms are just ‘stuck’ on the donkey mesh. Is there a way you can integrate the robotic structure into the donkey flesh.

Keep jammin!

#22

lol , the pose, the look on his face, everything, if this ain’t funny …
…i dunno , details or no , keep comin up with stuff cool
and worshipfulness your picture gets

#24

Still some minor tweaking necessary.

Hi russel, here are a few crits, I hope they help:
I think you have to pose finers too, if you didn’t mean they as ‘minor’ tweakings. the eyes look good, but if I were you i make some differences in their eye-lids to not to be the same exactly.
I don’t crit on light yet and also I’m waiting for the texturing part.
and finaly do something on his knees, it is not very good now. maybe more …emm…spherical, fatter, huh?

#25

heyheyhey ! do NOTHING to the eyes ! no sunglasses,
no tweaking , nothing , they’re crrrazy !

otherwise , :bounce:

#26

Thanks guys,
Fingers are now rigged so I can pose them. I am going to make pose sliders for the eyelids next (no worry Squibbit, everything can be undone  ).
The sunglasses were just for fun. I saw a movie with a guy playing bass and wearing sunglasses so I want to see how it looks on my donkey. I think I will remove them. Although the last picture makes me smile every time I look at it. But on the other hand I don’t like the eyes to be hidden.
The knees are also tweaked.

Right in the moment I try to learn texturing. Actually I never really did it before. Especially not in this program. I will post an update as soon as I found out how to handle this goddamned UV-Editor. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks again for your comments,

Russel

I did some tests painting some fur. Not yet sure what base colour I am going for. Either this brownish or may be some more greyish.

There is so much more to learn. Hope I will be able to finish in time.

Russel

#28

I think I will go for the grey one.

Not sure about the hair. Don’t 100% like it.

Ok, once again,
here is a textured version of the donkey. Unfortunately I don’t have time to invest more time in texturing the body, I will do some on the mechanics, the bass and the stage. But my PhD has to be finished very soon, so this is more important in the moment.

If there is some time left after I finished writing I will try to improve the textures.

Russel

#30

I did some texturing of the bass.

C&C are welcome.

Ok, I start playing around with the lighting. But this is the first time ever I am lighting a scene. So, if anyone of you professionals out there can give me some hints, I would be very glad.

Russel

#32

A new lighting version.

Russel

#33

Hi,
lighting is nearly the way I want it to be.
Would be nice to have some comments,

Greetings Russel

#34

cool , the roses and the carrot are a nice touch

#35

Really nice concept, Torsten! You’ve made a nice scene. I like that roses & carrot! :stuck_out_tongue: That render before the last is really nice. I should place the cam in the same direction, but with the carrot and roses (combination of last 2 scenes  ).

Good luck!

IEA, IEA

#36

Thanks for the comments. I did a few renderings from different camera angles. Still not sure which I like most.

I’m liking the third composition the best - the one that looks to be from the audiences POV. The fact that someone has chucked a carrot on stage is pure comedy.

Cant’ help but feel that his hind legs need to be stockier or at least have one pulled back to balance him better. And how about his tail swishing round the side…

#38

I just discovered that due to hardware limit I will not be able to render in full-size while using volumetric effects. The program keeps on crashing after 1 hour of rendering saying that 2 GB of memory are not enough. :frowning:
So I tried to achieve the same effect using Photoshop.

Ok, this is my final image.

Once again the story behind this character:

He was the leader of the Bremer Stadtmusikanten (Bremer Town Musicians) but the day he went to that “Apocalyptica” concert changed his live. He left the band and started a solo career. Unfortunately nobody took any note of him. But that changed dramatically as he met that strange scientist. Now he sometimes wish back the old quite times with his three friends.

It was fun to take part in this challenge and I learned a lot.

Thanks to everybody who supported me on the way.

Interesting cartoony style and a fine concept!
Best luck to you!!
