Machineflesh 3D Challenge Entry: Steve Sloan
Ok everyone, can’t wait to start pumping out ideas. this is going to be the best comp yet.
Work hard and have fun.
This is just a starting point, something to base my thoughts on and give my imagination some detail.
Characters and a scene will come soon,
The hand has genetically altered / artificial skin, able to burn away at will. Revealing what they have done to them selves.
I got my ideas from the story/history I thought up. I found this really help the thought process.
Any thoughts, people?
Thanks
Steve
A scene I thought of.
Short Story: Humans started adding things to them selvs, they gave the modifications the ability to upgrade and grow, thinking they could achieve the perfect and most useful beings.
Later they discovered the machine’s desire to grow, it found the ability to infest the brain, operations to remove the effects often result in paranoia and violence.
The figure to the left may be his wife.
He at the moment blames her for what’s happening
Now weather to use this…
it has emotion, it may be lacking in origionality.
If i like it ill get more detail, Ill get more concepts comming.
Here is a better idea.
She ran from the war and returned, nothing is left of her country
any c&c is appreciated
I think I will keep this one, it’s way better than my last one, if you can make out what it is, it looks like i through up on it. anyway. this is just to start things off, ill likely add more machinery.
Right now her arm and bottom half are robotic as well as a built in gas mask in her throught to survive chemicals.
Ill add sketches of detail as i need it. right now i just wanted to get this up and start modeling!
ok…This is Great idea…when i’m lookin at it,something’s telling me this will Win…Anyway…what’s the point? What she’s Gonna do After coming back from the war?staying at home??
hope to see More detail on the next sketches:thumbsup: :applause:
Ahh, great point, no one is going to go back to something destroyed, the atmosphere would be too empty as well.
Thanks for the feedback 3rd user
I guess ill have her escaping from a war, it will have a futuristic look to it. She could be backing cautiously away from some strange creatures who are attacking her. (Something crazy and original)
As for a weapon, she could be just holding a gun instead of having one built in. Shes a citizen, not a warrior (Ill think about it)
Ok so Ive started modeling
Now dont get worried, this is NOT what Im going to use for my model. Im just getting the proportions down and figuring out what I need to add to it.
Not great looking I know but its a start
A little update to my idea, hope you like it. I think it would be a good idea to add machinery to the animal, i guese that will come later.
C&C is alwayse welcome
This is what ive got so far for the face, ill need help getting this right.
Im going to rework the topology so that it looks more like my refs. Then ill post the wire it’s a bit messy at the moment.
Legs are very good in my opinion:buttrock:
probably the distance of the mouth and nose are too big.
KEEP IT UP:bounce:
I agree with tremoside, thats the first thing that strikes me when i saw the face. How about an action shot kinda thing? Would be nice to see the legs mechanism at work. Maybe its just me, but i like to see things in motion. :buttrock:
Thanks for the comments, they help so much!
I fixed some stuff up on the face, ill post it + wires when i get back from school.
Your right about the mouth, refs must have not been 100% in the right position, it looks more natural now.
About a test animation, i really don’t know how to rig something like that, any tutorials on how to rig machinery? all ive worked with is organic animation using the skin modifyer(and that is not too much experience).
Also, ive never textured anything before worth mentioning. should i model everything and then start texturing or
model the face - texture it
model the body - texture it
model machinery - texture it
what approach is better:shrug:
Something doesnt look right, any opinions? Does the forehead need to come out more,
I’m not sure weather to move on or not
I think the forehead is fine. But maybe some work around the nostrils,a little smoother.Pretty nice still.
Ok well this is all i have so far, i know its sad im this slow. anyway i learned a how to texture and how to light in brazil so thats what has slowed me down so much, I guese ill work on this as much as i can for the next 20 days but i can guarentee it wont be finished by then. hopefully ive learned enough this time the finish the job next compatition.
About the model, what do i need to make the face look better, better references might help i think. It feels like it’s lacking character.
Any sudjestions
